IIRC, an 8GB DDR3 DIMM uses about 2.5W. The CPU is rated at 45W alone. Add the SSDs, screen, whatever you have plugged in... the heat is a by product of the power consumed by all the components in the machine. You reduce power consumption by throttling down, which also reduces heat. Might be beneficial to change your power settings depending on your workload.

latest weirdness: Alt-S doesn't send a message in Outlook like it does with every other computer I've ever owned. Alt--> also doesn't go forward in a browser but increases the screen brightness. Odd.

Also, I was getting a lot of display-driver-has-crashed messages. went into Device Manager, manually updated driver for Intel graphics and rebooted. seems to have calmed down though watch it complain the minute I post this...

Seems like these key-combinations are defined as shortcuts in your drivers, Nvidia or something else.

I had a similar thing with Nvidia software many years ago where alt-2 switched to dual screen, but on a Swedish keyboard that is how you type an @, so I couldn't type e-mail addresses until I figured that out...

Ps. Still waiting for my 5510 to arrive...

When did u order? What's your configuration? I'm trying to understand if it's supply issue ie display, ssd, etc.

    My 2 cents

You might want to check and see if any software is loading the CPU in the background. I am seeing 5 hours from the 56Whr battery. When I was testing the 84Whr battery I was seeing 7-8 hours under normal use.

Is the 7-8 hours 84whr battery life with the 4K display?

Ha, no way getting 7-8 hours on the 4K with the 84wHr battery. I have that configuration and the best I realistically think I would get with non-demanding usage would be 5-6 hours. With average use I would think 4 hours but haven't tested it as I'm usually not away from a power source for extended periods.

Can anyone comment on the Wireless speed? Since the card is dual antenna Intel and NOT the same as the XPS15 Broadcom.

Yes. Display at half brightness, using normal office apps, slack messenger, and browser. The biggest things that I have seen kill battery life are background activities like windows updates and Outlook indexing email. Check your power usage. I am seeing around 9-13 watts of power being used when I am in meetings taking notes. If something is running in the background, it might go up to around 20 watts.
