Hmmm I tried to find a YouTube video that shows a tour around the new dock. I've got some screenshots on my iPad I think. It has ports on the front, side and back. Maybe someone else have images of the dock?

No it will not persist... didn't catch that you're using Linux. I have less experience there.

With Optimus, the Intel GPU always drives the display, and the NVIDIA GPU kicks in when it is handed work to do. Otherwise, the NVIDIA GPU is actually powered off. The NVIDIA GPU writes to the Intel GPU framebuffer and that output is presented to the display by the Intel GPU. The only way to get the Intel GPU out of the loop is to turn off graphics switching in the BIOS, but it looks like this is not an option on the 5510.

Anyway, this is good news for you because it means you should just be able to run on the Intel GPU and ignore the NVIDIA GPU. To prevent the NVIDIA driver from loading you could add it to the driver blacklist (/etc/modprobe.d/blacklist in Ubuntu/Mint, at least it used to be that way) and then you should be set, I think. Note: Never tried this myself

(If you're used to using Linux, you're probably used to having to figure out tweaks like this :p)

Note further, I'm not sure how it is on the 5510, but on the M4800/M6800 and earlier, certain video outputs are only connected to the NVIDIA GPU and require the NVIDIA GPU to be functioning to work. You should confirm that any outputs (HDMI/DP/etc.) that you need work after you disable the NVIDIA GPU.

When did you place your order? Any idea how long its status was "In Production" before it shipped? I have 2 on order, they have been shown "In Production" for about a week, expected delivery is next Friday.

This was a very informative reply. After all replies in this thread I will order the precision 5510 with the max configuration. Just few days ago I saw that NVidia released a Linux driver, so things should work. I will need to use the external outputs too.

    Thank you!

that's exactly my config. I just put 32G memory in there this afternoon, using g.skill chips purchased here: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820232169

I have a 34" curved 3440x1440 monitor at work but for some reason didn't think to hook it up today. I picked up a usb-c to DisplayPort cable which should do the trick. or I could go HDMI to HDMI I suppose.

btw, just a heads-up that the extra power adapter recommended on the config screen did not work with my Precision 5510. the plug is the wrong size.

Looking to load up ESXi on a 5510, anyone have any luck with this? About to take it apart and remove the nvidia card, install ESXi, install the nvidia .vib, then reinstall the card. Anyone with experience in this?

Does the 5510 ship with the 2nd drive bay ready to accept a 2.5" SATA drive, or is some kind of cable or other adapter required?

You can use CPU-Z to check the RAM details. You don't need to get the same manufacturer, just match the timings.
