Jason, it seems you've had some really bad luck with your E4200. Mine is running almost perfectly so far (crossing fingers), though I didn't get the fingerprint reader to begin with.

Overall, I think it's a neat little traveling companion, reasonably powerful for its size, and with good battery life - I get 4-5 hours on the high performance setting (6-cell battery), which is good enough for me.

A couple of things I'm less happy with are the volume buttons, which seem to work only when they feel like it, and the (so far) completely useless Latitude ON "feature".

I sincerely hope that you get some better tech support on the next run, Jason.

Latitude tech support is some of the best in the business. It's just that Dell some times uses local company support in the area (such as Unisys) and those tech can really suck out in the boonies.

The support directly from Dell has been very good (except for the rep who has stopped responding to me).

Unfortunately, my on-site work is being done by Qualxserv and they don't have a stellar reputation.

Anyway, my screen has been replaced. This tech was actually a lot better than the last one. He also, at my request, unplugged the SD reader and then plugged it back in, though I don't have a card here at work I can test with. I'll try it out when I get home. If not, I guess I'll be getting a 3rd service call...

I heard from a Dell 'person' today that LatOn is shipping. Sounds like BS to me but he was quite certain. Can anyone confirm this?

I say order it, and if you don't have it, ask for it (force them to not charge you, as you are supposed to already have it) and/or compensation.

I talked to my rep yesterday and he said that the brand manager says not until 12/17.

Eh... I'm getting a new build. The tech says it should take about a week to put together.

I'm really hoping that this second one is better from the factory than the first as my only complaints thus far have been related to QC. The notebook itself (when working) is great.

Good luck with the new unit, Jason. I think manufacturing laptops is like any other enterprise. It takes a while for everyone to get used to doing it right. I hope you will find this one a lot better. Hope you will report the QA analysis back to us.
