As this comes from experience, it may or may not apply to you (or your XPS).

As good as the XPS is, its still not as robust as the D series.

The chassis is a bit flexy, it has very little protection for the hard drive (yes, i know they have an SSD option...but $$$). The XPS also doesn;t seem to run as stable (might be related to the video subsystem) even with the same drivers and software package as my D630 (both on XP).

It may also have some reliability issues as well. Mine and a few others had our 8400GS go bad on us in a matter of months.

I have a nagging suspision that the XPS's cooling system may not be adequate. It runs quite much warmer than the faster D630 and just the other day, I recorded a 70/82 degree C cpu/chipset temp on max load.

I once accidentally left my old C610 on the top of my car and drove off. Came out of that with a cracked heat vent, more so with the D series which are much stronger, Do that in an XPS and you'd be lucky if the screen is still intact.

I agree, though, there's not much in it.

I disagree - my XPS is more stable than my D420 ever was. I think it's down to Vista - which I find 100x more reliable and manages far better than XP. It's a better OS.

I had occasional BSOD's on the D420 (XP). Not one on the XPS.

Not yet happened to me! touch wood. Don't forget though the Latitude's don't have fancy graphics cards.

Again, XPS's do run hotter than Latitudes, but it doesn't matter that they do. They're made for performance - getting the best out of every component. That's going to make each component run hotter. Latitudes need to be reliable, as that's the market they're aimed at. Additionally, the XPS graphics card alone generates a lot of extra heat the Latitudes do not.

I do like, however, how the Latitude runs a lot cooler and quieter than the XPS.

Not a chance you'd be experimenting that with my XPS!

    i have a d630.
the only thing i would change is the screen, it's vertical viewing angles are terrible.

it's been in my targus backpack for about 5 months now, with my text books and everything, and so far it's only developed a about a 1mm crack where the battery goes. i think thats the targus's fault though, since theres not enough padding at the bottom.

so when this comes out it'll be a big improvement if nothing but the screens changed.

for me, it'd either be the e-series or the new thinkpad x300.

Any speculation on when this notebook might come out or a price point?

The 1330 XPS is very close to what I want, but the build needs to be a bit more solid. If the E-series is as good as it sounds, it would fit my needs well at under 5 lbs.

Is the graphic card going to be anywhere near 512mb? series or will this laptop not be geared towards high graphics. .

    give a guess?

The amount of memory in a GPU doesn't matter much...
