I have had my CPU temps all the way down to around 20 with the fan running (it doesn't seem like the new bios makes any difference). I think it is not the cpu, but the graphics that creates the most heat and therefore "controls" the fan. It seems like that for my system at least. running L8rFangui or what it is called, I can see that the slow fan turns on when the GPU hits 46C and turns off again when it hits 42C. (runs approx. 50 percent of the time in normal office use)

the fan seems to be on medium speed more on a09 compared to a03.

hope there is another update around the corner thats better than this. the fix list looks good, but i dint have a problem with a03...does that mean the stuff they just fixed got broken in the process of going from a03 to a06? :p

im getting a bit worried about my temps. im not overclocking or anything, but i notice my GPU idle temps seem to be on the high side compared to some of yours. It idles at about 59-62*c ish.....is this a problem?

What are you measuring temps with AFH?

I've realized I8KFanGUI is terrible for monitoring temps. HWmonitor just shows everything was about 10C higher =/...GPU max after 5 hours of L4D was 92C lol. Overheating anyone? I am so getting another replacement if this causes issues, and for all these inconveniences I demand a free quad core >=(

Note that HWmonitor 1.11 gives CPU core temperatures 5C lower than version 1.10, but THM_ is the same for both versions. 1.10 makes more sense to me since the core temperes are close to the THM_ (which I think is a sensor outside the CPU). RMClock also gives the lower core temperatures, but that hasn't been updated for some time.

HWmonitor is spot on here...i always check with nTune next to it and they always go up and down together, version 1.12 that is.

And yeah, what's THM? I looked for it on the web but the stuff i found was either completly unrelated or far more technical then something i would expect to be shown by HWmonitor...and beyond my comprehension...i think it's something like system temperature maybe.

RAM....did you reach that temp with OC'ing or without? Right now my absolute max reached is 81celsius but after most gaming session it's at 79.

AFH...those temps are not necessaraly too hot but check with nvidia system tools to see if HWmonitor is giving you the correct temps....also, what are your ambient temps? My GPU is usually around 50-54 when i'm using the laptop and when really idle it's at 46-48....your's really shouldnt be 10c higher, we have almost the exact same system and i have it hooked up to a 27" monitor too....don't know if that affects GPU use much compared too using the laptop display.

if i could venture a guess, i think my ambient temp is around 20-22*c. Well at least thats the setting the thermostat in the house is set on.

when i saw the temps i assumed its cos i use it on the bed a lot, so i put it on a desk for a while, but the temps only went down by 3*c..... not a big difference

wonder if the thermal paste was applied sloppily in the factory?

tried gaming on a09. it was horrible. CPU refused to run at maximum frequency. Became laggy after about 10 mins playing hitman blood money with settings on high.

downgraded to a03. problem gone. how annoying!
