For those who have picked up an XPS 15 or a Precision 5510...we can now get both non-ECC and ECC RAM for our notebooks.

16GB Non-ECC SoDIMMs (Crucial, for Core i5/i7 and compatible Xeon processors)
    http://www.crucial.com/usa/en/xps-15-(9550)/CT7891608

16GB ECC SoDIMMs (Lenovo, for Xeon processors)
    http://shop.lenovo.com/us/en/itemdetails/4X70J67438/460/8141560212D94F63BAF080051195233B

The Crucial link is for 32GB total (16GB x 2). The Lenovo link is for just one 16GB SoDIMM. For a total of 32GB ECC RAM you would need two of the Lenovo modules.

The Lenovo modules are currently really expensive. Hopefully Crucial will have 16GB ECC SoDIMMs available soon for $150-$200 each.

If anyone else has a link to high-quality 16GB SoDIMMs, please let me know. Especially if they are ECC.

For Precision 5510 with Xeon processors, here is another 16GB SoDIMM option.

16GB ECC SoDIMMs (Transcend, for Xeon processors)
    https://www.cdw.com/shop/products/Transcend-DDR4-16-GB-SO-DIMM-260-pin/3819776.aspx

Some more specs on this Transcend SoDIMM
    http://www.transcend-info.com/Products/No-690

This one is about half the price of the Lenovo SoDIMM. It is orderable, but has an unknown shipping lead time.

SMART also has a 16GB DDR4 ECC SoDIMM coming out, at 2400MHz. Mouser.com does not have it available to order yet.

That is a nice find for those interested in using 16GB ECC sticks, or for those wanting non-Dell sourced 16GB sticks (ECC or not). thanks.

Last time I checked, the Dell configurator only showed ECC sticks up to 8GB maximum. I wonder if they will change that soon.

Really? The 7510 configurator allowed me 32GB ECC, or 64GB non ECC. And that was a month ago when I ordered my machine

I've been looking at the Transcend since the 5510 was released. It seems we're limited to 8GB modules from Kingston and Crucial and 16GB modules from Lenovo and Transcend.

Transcend are very affordable, but I hope to see 16GB modules from Kingston soon. Does anyone know the quality/speed from Transcend vs. other brands?

I think that ygohome was referring to the 5510 (which has two slots for SoDIMMs, rather than the four slots of the larger machines).

They have the 16GB SoDIMMS available for the 7510, you can configure 64GB RAM... You can even opt to order 2x8GB or 1x16GB or 4x8GB or 2x16GB if you prefer. I'm sure they use the same for the 5510 and I'm pretty sure the last I checked (I originally ordered the 5510 but canceled) they had the 32GB option.

I should add, what Dell does (at least Dell US) is remove certain options from the configurator when they are currently out of stock or such. So you'll see an option one day and it will disappear the next. Reason I canceled the 5510 order and got the 7510.
