Many thanks to bmnotpls. Thank you for pointing out the instructions to properly install the audio drive. The initial instruction by killer23d simply doesn't work for my sound card. I see that many other people have the same problem.

Here I am quoting dmnotpls' post:

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=150033

"I used the above link to get Windows XP working perfectly well on my Vostro 1400, I installed Dell Media Direct, used XP slipstreamed with SATA and all the drivers referenced above to make it all work, for the guy who has problems with the audio follow the instructions in that thread to get it working, since it has a 'different' installation."

I follow the instruction for Inspiron 1420 and the sound card worked! The above linked page has a much more detailed instruction than the initial post here. I recommend reading that one to complement the instruction in this thread.

    Good luck to you all.

    Best,
    Feng

Guys, can you please post what driver you used for your Wireless????

I have the Dell Wireless 1390, and I try and use the R115321.exe and it keeps on telling me that it does not detect the hardware.

    Thank You In Advance!!!

    Yes Thank you very much!!!

Now, if only i could get my Audio to work..

I tried the R158235.exe and that didn't work for me, neither did the one in the first post, it never "asked" me to identify drivers for the new hardware.

Thank you for all your support.

    Hi,

I have installed all the drivers, with help from http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=150033 and this thread. All the drivers work now. I have just one problem left.

The computer will come on after closing and reopening the lid (the key board and lights will come back on), but the LCD does not turn on. I did not install media direct. Could that have been the cause? Did anyone have the same problem or solutions?

    Thanks in advance.

    Feng
