The main thing is you'll need to remove the palmrest, which is a pain to do. I recommend studying Dell's service manual if you haven't done it before.

Ok. I just got done and I have to say that was a huge pain in the rear to do. The new screen is quite beautiful though.

I unfortunately managed to lose one of the M2x2.5 screws that secure the screen, but I'll chalk that up as a small loss considering all the things that could have gone wrong. I might just Kapton tape it down and forget about it.

    I'll post some pictures later

If you know how many mm long the replacement screw you need is, take a look at McMaster.com - they should have what you need.

You can find M2x2.5 pretty easy so that's not a big problem.

I'll look forward to the pictures!

So to do this upgrade you'll need to remove (in roughly this order) the display bezel, the screen, the keyboard, optical drive, palm rest, hinge cover, and display assembly. Since this is almost a full teardown I went ahead and disassembled everything to clean out the fan and replace the TIM.

The new cable is somewhat different than the original. Definitely long enough, but just has a slightly different shape which makes it awkward to fit in. The webcam cable travels differently so I just tried to shove it in there as best I could. The cable is also a bit longer and thicker at the LCD end, so you end up having to try to stuff the cable in the bezel. I think the extra bulk there is causing my bezel to fit poorly, so I'll take another look at that.

One problem I'm finding is that the webcam can work its way loose. The original cable was glued down fairly securely, and the new cable is a bit shorter, so there's extra tension on the cable. After moving the lid around a few times the cable seemed to have come loose.

I'll try taping the cable down more securely to see if it can stay secure. Otherwise I can live w/o the webcam.

did this happen because you took off the whole screen? or because of the new display cable?

Yeah the new display cable routes a bit different. It's also not glued down like the OEM cable so it can work its way loose.

I think also since there's no routing channel for the new webcam cable, it's pressing against the bezel which causes a poor fit.

Today i tried to install my new screen..
But i found a problem, i bought a H58TK cable witch didn't had the right connector.
Left is the one i had and right is the one i needed.

So i bought right away a new one.. And for now it's waiting....
I've tested the screen with the old cable. I couldn't find any death pixels.
So i hope in a few weeks i've the right cable..
