Do you believe this? Dell guys just called me claiming that it was a misprint on all of their sites worldwide and GT is NOT AVAILABLE for Vostro 1710.

They are going to send me a legal confirmation on this

    Thats rubbish.
That is false advertising and legally we are in the right here. We could go to the Department of Fair Trading (in Australia).

Not only was the GT listed, but it was PROMOTED as an upgrade for the Vostro in the week I purchased. It was the prominent promotion on that page. If only I had taken a screen shot!!!

Basically when I was on the site it said "3 days remaining, free upgrade to nVidia 8600M GT with Vostro 1710". So they sucked people in yet delivered an inferior product?? THAT IS ILLEGAL!

They have not called me back but if they do with that response I'm going to blast them.

Can you imagine if companies got away with doing this? Advertising one thing and delivering another??

Look, I know all those things. I have ordered exactly the same 8600 GT. What they are saying is that it was a misprint on the Dell site and it was supposed to be GS, but not GT. I also spoke with many Dell people in Malasya and they are claiming that Vostro 1710 is being shipped with GS only.

So, what are you suggesting to do? Fair trade commission here in AU? Maybe we should talk with their US office as it is a US company and all the legal statements on their AU site refer to the US entity.

Checking the product details in the link you just posted list TPM as a 'standard' feature. I can't find any trace of this on my machine. I started a thread about it: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=262200

Anyone else think this is a problem?

if i were you I would send it back . Don't know about Australia but in Canada you have 30 days or 21 on some models to return no questions asked . I did it a few years back becuase of wrong parts and reordered .

Anyone who needs an 8600GT should certainly send it back, but they'll need to spend more on another Dell which may involve other compromises. And more still from other makers.

If the GS is adequate it's worth looking into getting compensation for the missing item(s). I can't find another machine that meets my specifications for less than an extra 50% unless I'm prepared to make bigger compromises than the GS.
