IM BACK!!! Hey thanks to Pattertj, for using one of those radio shack thermometer.

I put arctic silver, and aluminum shims (made from old heatsink) its great!!!
my max temp during 3dmark05 was 72 C!!!! and its overclocked! it used to reach 90-100, now its staying between 70-80!!

    woo hoo

    haha

Wow, that is really impressive. What thickness shims were you using? Also, what clocks are you running, were you sble to hit higher clocks than before?

You may have just convinced me to tear my Vostro open.

i cant describe it, ill take pics of it, i found an old dell heatsink a friend gave me so i broke off part of the aluminum shaped it to the size of the gpu, stacked on under the already copper shim thats there.

ill get pics of the heatsink later on, but yea i love it!!!. I put shims everywhere! haha. on the GPU, intel chipset, and gpu Ram. havnt tried clocking ram farther right now my clocks when gaming (shown by rivatuner) are

    702 core and 820 memory.

    3dmark05 of 4600

    pretty nice,

im gonna watch the temps more, i think ill downclock later on.

its really impressive, its better than a 6600gt (stock) and better than a 6800 non ultra. lol.

back in the days those kicked ass!!

only thing holdin it back is 128mb of ram

    @ Devilsnight

My old desktop's 6800 vanilla did about 3800 stock in 3dmark05. Oc'ed I got it up to 5k. Not that much different than my 4700 3dmark05 score for the 8400GS.

You will have to post some pictures! Thats amazing that it actually helped the temps that much... I know however, something as simple as a notebook cooler can help GPU temps by 5-10C in most cases... Have you tried that in addition with the shims?

    To respond to previous questions:

Thanks for posting these results. What I said before was exactly true in this case. About a 10-20C difference between the Thermometer and the internal core.

Artifacts are polygons that are usually dark colored. They are polygons that are missing from the rest of the texture in a game or say 3dmark. In extreme situations your screen can turn pink and all kinds of nasty colors.

    Some new info:

I don't know if any of you have noticed this, but there is hardly any difference in performance between 600/750 and 650/800. I got just over 4,600 in 3dmark05 at 600/750. At clocks around 660/810 I got like 10 points shy of 4700. Then if I went up even higher than 660/810 to something like 680/830 my scores were actually lower than at 660/810. I'm guessing the card throttled itself down because it was getting a bit hot. Anyone notice anything like this yet?

Jason - Your 3dmark05 score is a solid 1000 more than mine at the same clock and memory speeds... what processor are you running?

    Bioshock Framerates

    163.44 Drivers - 1280x800 - 400mhz core/500mhz memory - 8400m GS

    Frames--Time (ms)--Min----Max-----Avg
    2729-----300000-----5-----19-----9.097-----High Settings
    3643-----300000-----7-----21-----12.143----Medium Settings
    4904-----300000-----7-----55-----16.347----Low Settings

If drivers come out that allow overclocking for this game I would expect framerates roughly 20-30% higher with a 600/750 setting. This is based on some testing with BF2, CoD2, CoJ, CoH, FEAR, and PREY.

    -----------------400/500------600/750----% increase
    Battlefield 2----------38.54--------48.28-------25.27%
    Call of Duty 2---------9.7----------11.5--------18.6%
    Call of Juarez---------11.857------15.067------27.07%
    Company of Heroes---13.5----------23.3-------72.59%
    FEAR-----------------29------------41--------41.38%
    PREY-----------------21.65--------44.653------106.25%

Overclocked Estimates for Bioshock - They could be higher or lower
    Low-------20-21FPS
    Medium----15-16FPS
    High-------11-12FPS

    i love this laptop!!!

Some of you have mentioned a loss of improvement as you overclock. I'm working on finding my max overclock now that I feel more comfortable with the temps and I8kfanGUI as my temperature monitor. I plan on benchmarking at the baseline, 1/4, 1/2, 3/4 and Max overclocks to see if there is a trend in temps and performance. Hopefully I'll have some results Friday or Monday.

Same CPU as you. :p I don't know why my scores are so much higher... Stock I got just under 3k 500/600 about 3700 650/750 about 4600... I did this with like zero programs running the the background. Maybe you have some things slowing you down?

Hi again. I know this may be off topic, but does the Quadro 135M use GDDR2 or GDDR3?

Thats strange though, as isn't this card supposed to be 400/600 but is underclocked?

Also our chances of getting new drivers that allow overclocking anytime soon look grim :\
