Was just coming to ask the same question. I just got a couple of M4600s from the outlet store and they came with massive 240W power supplies!

OK, wish I'd read the whole thread properly before ordering.

I can't use the second set of RAM slots with the dual core i7 processor. Which means if I want 16GB of RAM I'll need 8GBx2 instead of 4GBx4 like I expected and to do that I'd have to sell my soul as the price difference is huge.

Luckily the other laptop is a quad core one.

    Hi guys!

I'm going to buy the wonderfull M4600, there's my specs :

    AMD FIREPRO M5950
    Full HD 1920x1080
    I7 2720QM
    750 GO - 7200 TOURS/MIN
    Backlight keyboard
    9 Cells battery
(and I will upgrade to 16GB of RAM later)

But I read on the forum that there's no Optimus thing for the AMD, so no way to disable the graphic card and use only the HD3000.

So my question is : on a M4600 with the AMD card, there's no way to save battery life on Linux/Windows ? Am I right ?

    Thanks a lot

EDIT : Does anybody have an estimation of the battery life with similar specs (Windows and Linux if it's possible) ?
    EDIT : With the AMD Card : 3h on current use | With the 2000 : ???

PS : Sorry for my english, I'm a french little student :)

There is no way to save battery life with technology like optimus with AMD card on M4600. The bios needs to support it first.

Update the main post with a little HDD benchmark, Optical Bay HDD Caddy & USB3 issues.

    Quick glance:-

A Dell salesman told me that if I chose the 2920 2.5Ghz processor that the M4600 would not be Energy Star 5 rated. Does that sound correct?
