I believe all of the dGPU cards have 3 connectors; you only need to worry about sourcing more of these if you originally ordered the system with Intel graphics only.

    Hallo there.
Finally took the plunge and I am upgrading the 7730.Mine came with the intel thingy,so no power gpu power cable needed.
How do I connect the card to the motherboard with the gpu cable?
I do not want to damage anything so I prefer to ask.Thanks.

Hello, on the left side of the photo, right where you have place the arrow, there are printed instructions on the black isolating sheet. What you are showing is only the DGFF DC power cable. You will also need the three board to board connectors and six M2 waffle head screws. Be extra careful when installing the connectors, the dowel pins must be engaged in their respective holes before final screw installation. Also the connectors on the DGFF cable are very brittle, if you do not follow the installation sequence you will damage them.

You probably know it already, but if you are upgrading from Intel graphics only, you also have to replace the heatsink assembly to get the one that has heat pipes running to the dGPU.

Replying to supermoth - Post a photo of the heatsink please and a close-up of the label on top. Also, what graphics card are you installing?

Thanks for the reminder.Yes I have all the parts needed.

Thanks for the tips and the info.I did not see the instructions till now.Very subtle indeed.

    Installing a P5200.

    Regular intel thingy only heatsink

    Both together

You could observe the extra pipe for the “real” graphic card.

You should be good to go, just make sure the GPU die matches the copper surface on the heatsink. You may have remove some of the black insulation tape if there is any installed on the contact surface of the heatsink. Also, make sure that all other cooling pads are correctly installed and sitting on top of the parts needing heat transfer.

Quick question.......I have some wafer style machine screws M2x3 and almost 7mm diameter ones leftover from another project in black not in silver. Are this screws ok to join the motherboard to the graphic card,or do I need exactly the silver ones?

Finishing on screws is about corrosion from elements, conductivity and galvanic corrosion between the surfaces when dissimilar materials are in contact. Personally I would chose to install the original design ones. There must be a reason for which Dell has opted for that finishing and I do not believe it is appearance only.
