    Hi Willem

I'm running Windows 7 RC1 and also got the BsoD. I thought it may be Win7 related.

After following your instructions everything worked.

    Regards.

I just tried this and everything is working great. Although there has only been little improvement in audio stuttering. Thanks for the great instructions.

IMSM 8.9 was released and this method is no more necessary. I simply followed MS's KB article and it just worked.

So with this fix, this should (relatively) future proof platforms that have IRRT / AHCI supported BIOSes? Is my logic right on this?

Essentially, my shop has a standard image that was built on a Optiplex GX755 which we use Acronis TIE to push out to all new machines. This worked flawlessly on older machines; but when we got in a few E6400's for new employees, we got BSOD until this fix.

Basically we followed this and another forum post on Dell's community support forums, and put the dirivers in the System32 folder & made the required registry entries and re-cut the image. This worked like a charm.

Now I'm just trying to wrap my head around the future. Going forward with newer hardware, what's the likely-hood of this working on a E7400 when it comes around? (If you follow my rambling...)

    Any thoughts?

    e6500 eSATA not working

I have tried your entire tutorial but to no avail. I stick at step 6 where after booting I still end up with BSOD. So I changed back to ATA and I can work again.

I would like to connect my (working via USB) WD 1TB external disk via the E6500's eSata port but cannot seem to do it regardless of following your meticulous advice. Device manager simply doesn't even recognize the drive or a sata controller.

e6500, 8GB, 250GB, W7x64 original setting ATA in the BIOS

What to do (other than reinstalling W7x64 with the Bios on AHCI setting-rather not!)

i have followed the instructions and succeeded in the past. my issue now is a clean install of windows 7 64 bit. for the life of me I cant get it to work with AHCI or ATA. I notice a lot of latency and was hoping someone could let me know if I am missing some steps. The laptops I am installing on is a dell e6400. last of all does it make more sense for me to set it to AHCI or ATA? any advice would be appreciated. I am banging my head against the wall with this one.
