    Hi guys,

in the M6400 owners thread I read about the fact that the normal version of M6400 is also available with this type of panel.

I don't see it at the configurator, so only a mistake or did I miss something?

The RGB LED option was there for a couple of days when the M6400 was launched, but was quickly removed.
It has recently re emerged on the DELL U.S. site but so far has not shown up on the U.K. site.

For me this will beat the covet E2E hands down, the US 'help me choose' guide for the display choice lists the RGB LED E2E as 'Truelife' or glossy but the RGB LED does not have this so if this info is correct then it should be a matt - non glare type.

Now just to wait till the new year for the reductions and or offers

Are we sure about this? There haven't been any reviews out to confirm. I tried to order a matte replacement screen for my M9300 and Dell said all screen types were glossy (both Ultrasharp and TrueLife). They sent me what they said was an ultrasharp screen and it was indeed glossy.

If there are non-glossy RGB led screens out then I'll seriously have to consider cancelling my Covet order and getting the matte version.

..then you should get a M4400 - they have a matte RGBLED panel.
I would presume the RGBLED option listed for M6400 also is matte since it's a "ultrasharp" and not a "truelife".. :)

You know what's funny? I had multiple conversations with Dell reps yesterday, and they ALL insisted that the Covet edge-to-edge display was matte.

Also I could have sworn that I had seen "TrueLife" in the Covet display specs, but after those sales reps said that I checked again... and it did not.

I'm assuming everyone here has seen the YouTube video where someone at a Dell release conference shows off the unit. Maybe it was an early version? Maybe, at the very last minute, some exec stopped smoking his crackpipe and said "Wait a minute. Glossy sucks! Change that quick!"

I've had reps tell me all sorts of complete nonsense in the past. Anything for a sale! Some folk have their covets already (and have posted pics) and made no mention of the screens being matte alas.

I am typing this on my M6400 Covet with its RGB LED E2E screen, and I can ASSURE you it is not a matte screen. :)

I was a bit hesitant about ordering a laptop with a glossy screen, as I've always had and been happy with WUXGA matte screens. However, I've been happy with the glossy so far, as the glare issue has been minimal, while the clarity is simply astounding.

I guess it all depends on your primary usage location, but for my office and at home, I've not had any problems with glare with the glossy screen.

And by the way, the term "Edge-to-edge" is a bit of a misnomer. While the glass does go "E2E", the actual display is the same size as any other 17" screen. There is about 1/2" of "black space" on the bottom and both sides, and about 1" of black space on the top.

Let me try and sort through some of the confusion.
The M6400 Covet has a RGBLED display with Edge 2 Edge glass on the front giving it the TrueLife finish.
The M6400, Carbide Silver, currently has a RGBLED display offering. This display has a bezel around it and is an AG, anti glare, finish. Matte.
    Hope this helps.

When will the E2E display be available for the silver M6400? I would like to order the E2E display but don't like the orange cover!
