Replace E6400 Motherboard With Precision Motherboard

I would like to replace my E6400 motherboard with this:

I just want to make sure it is the right one. Is there an intel version of the M2400 motherboard like with the E6400? Will I definitely get an Nvidia graphics chip? Thank you.

 

As far as I know definitely Intel chip. That is the whole point of the M2400 line, higher performance.

Are you sure? I know there is a version of the M2400 that comes with the Quadro FX 370M. I want the M2400 for that reason. I want the Nvidia GPU for its performance increase over the intel chip. Please do not tell me to get the E6400 Nvidia motherboard or get an intel chip. I have already decided against both for several reasons.

Is that enough evidence to assume that the motherboard I listed above will have the 370M?

 

Im sorry gamemasher, I meant to say DEFINITELY NOT intel chip. I was doing 4 things at once when I was posting.

I am not sure if M2400 was offered multiple GPUs. But yes you are guaranteed at least FX 370M. No intel only for M2400.

The fact however, is that the M2400's Nvidia is not that much powerful over E6400's Nvidia. I guess it could depend on what you are doing, but in the grander scheme of choices now, it really makes small difference. Percentage wise, perhaps good improvement. But you know going form $10 to $20 is a lot less of a difference than from $100 to $200.

According to notebookcheck, it uses 8w more of power too.

 

It's OK, thanks for helping me. I want to get the M2400 board because I have a $40 credit and $20 spare to spend on an upgrade. I need a new motherboard anyway as the intel chip in my E6400 failed so I figured this was the best option. I already have the M2400's heatsink and a copper mod ready to go so I've solved the heat problem. If the M2400 supports some newer processors, that'd be great too. HOwever that matters less than the GPU to me as I already have a powerful desktop.

 

Apparently the FX 370M and NVS 160M are based on same core.

The numbers from the site is a bit weird, but FX 370M is not actually faster than NVS 160M at all:

In reality, I would assume the same performance.

In addition, M2400 does not support Core 2 Quad, so you are looking at pretty much the same CPU options.

Also, as far as I am very positive, M2400's heatsink should work for E6400's Nvidia motherboard. But someone should confirm this ultimately. I compared the pics from Ebay.

So if the heatsink is 100% compatible, I would recommend E6400 Nvidia motherboard since it is 1) Cheaper and 2) Less power consuming.

There does not seem to be any advantage for M2400 board.

 

The problem is that I cannot find a new Nvidia E6400 motherboard for less than the price of the M2400 motherboard that I linked. If I could get it, I would. Also, the M2400 can spport 8GB of ram while the E6400 is limited to 4GB. I probably would not use all 8 but it's nice to know that I could.

Board appears to have Nvidia chip from the picture. Make offer for $35. You will probably get it for $40-42

2. E6400 supports 8GB. This is 100% true.

 

But if you REALLY want a Precision, buy a cheap M2400 palm rest and screen lid. They both should not cost much at all in good condition. And then boom.. You have entirely different laptop.
