found a site with a good review, gives comparisons to dvd cases and AA batteries to give an indication of the size... this thing is pretty big

    lol.

if i dint have to travel so much i'd have gotten the M6400 for sure, lowest spec possible and then gradually upgraded it over a year or two.

actually another one i was looking at was the acer aspire 8930...that thing is great, even though the build quality isnt up to business notebooks standards but its specced and priced well.. but again....too big and heavy for travelling....

m4400 was the best compromise for me.

I'm committed to Dell - they wouldn't waive the restocking fee from my Studio 15 unless I bought another Dell. That and my wife isn't comfortable "experimenting" with other brands.

I'm thinking with my budget concerns, getting a high-end M4400 will treat me better than a getting a low-end M6400 and hoping to upgrade it over time - even though the video card does seem to be that much better :/

im assuming you have a somewhat permanent place of residence. how come you dont have a desktop for gaming?

i cant have a desktop because i spend long periods of time (up to 3 months or more) in different countries (mainly malaysia, singapore, and the UK) sometimes staying in hotel rooms (so a mini form factor desktop is not convenient).

my perfect arrangement would be a large portable DTR like the xps 2010 (wonder why dell hasnt updated it, they could make it a real killer) combined with an ultraportable like the latitude E4200.

that way i transport the DTR and base it in my room, and when i go out/work/on the plane/etc i can use the 12"...

also man, what kind of games will you be playing? getting a M6400 with less ram and a less powerful processor but better graphics card might give you better performance regardless.

My gaming desktop - Core 2 Duo @2GHz, 2GB DDR2-800, nVidia 6800 XT - is in my basement, my wife would rather me be upstairs with her.

As far as what games, I honestly don't know yet. Definitely will be playing through CoD2, maybe try HL2, love to try Bioshock, Far Cry 2, CoD4 and 5, maybe Crysis :D And any other games that I don't know about yet that get brought to my attention.

I also want to work on developing a game of my own, but it won't be as visually demanding.

Edit: and lastly, the M6400 might not quite fit my budget after all - it depends on how Dell handles charging me the restocking fee (and then how they credit it back once I place the order).

then tell her, stop complaining about my tech purchases or im gonna spend more time in the basement :D

or you could bring up the gaming desktop, buy a wireless kb and mouse, connect it to your LCD TV (if you have one)

how many 3dmarks does ur desktop get?
