Thanks for the responses. I'll try to d/l the drivers for XP and install during the install. I'll reply back with a yay or nay. :)

To the guys who asked about hyper-v and vm I stated in my post I cannot do virtual b/c of proprietary serial communications issues and VMware has known issues with this. I'm not going to run the 2008 server as my base OS either so hyper-v doesn't do much good. I wish i could though!

A lot of people here have said they got deals with a Dell rep. on the phone but they sort of screwed me on a deal they agreed to and then changed their minds when they realized the 20% + 10% coupons I had for a Lenovo 700 expired. But I waited and with a 20% Dell Outlet coupon I got what looks new in all respects without so much as a smudge anywhere, a 'refurbished' Covet with the QX9300 processor, two 320GB drives and the upgraded LED display, FX3700 GPU, slot load CD/DVD and all the other standard upgraded Covet specs. And three years of Complete Care. It checked out at $5600 on the retail page and after the coupon I paid $2400. I call that an excellent deal. And so far (7 mo.) it's been sweet and trouble free.

Don't know about any 'student' or other ways to deal with them but I got what I consider to be the best deal in my computer buying life time. And I haven't read any posts of people complaining that it cost too much. Search the forum for 'coupons' or something because there's been lots of posts concerning price and what people paid, with a lot of people saying to talk with a Dell small business rep. for a deal. Didn't work for me but found a deal anyway.

With a premier account with Dell you can get system close to the outlet prices or better one some items. On some servers the discounts beat the outlet prices. Premier is for clients who buy crap load of stuff from Dell.

Though I could probably get an answer pressing phone buttons at Dell, exactly what's the requirements and how do you go about getting a Premier Account? I've been assured that I can get worldwide service with whatever account or guarantee I have but don't know anything about Premier accounts. My last Precision I had to send back to the States for service but made sure that this one can get serviced at one of several countries in driving distance but don't know what was different with this order other than I told them to make sure I could get service outside the U.S. They were recently ready to send someone with new parts it turned out I didn't need so I'm sure I do have international service.

    Hello group,

    I am about to receive my M6400 and I will immediately upgrade the 2Gb (1+1Gb) to 6Gb (2x1 + 2X2Gb) or 8Gb (4x2Gb).

Any suggestion on the 2Gb DDR3 modules?

I can find PNY modules (S2GBN16Q1066E-SB), that should work at a reasonable price here.

I also see that the Kingston configurator gives some similar but more expensive modules.
    The same for Corsair.

    Any experience, any test?

    Thanks
    GB

Have you cross checked CPUz against SIW or another gauge to make sure CPUZs not giving you false info.? Just a guess, I double check 18kfanGUI with the 'sensor' readings from SIW and it also gives you all the CPU performance info. I've found it worthwhile double checking hardware performance numbers, as it's rare that any two read exactly the same, at least when dealing with multiple values.

Guys I just ordered an M6400 from the outlet store, "scratch and dent" which I hope is barely noticeable. I used a 15% coupon someone posted today and my total came out to $2556 including shipping and tax. Comes with QX9300, 3700m and e2e RGB LED. There was no color listed so I'm not sure what color it is. I think brand new it would have been over $4000. Can't wait for this bad boy to be shipped. :D
