    hello again peeps

    Question on SSD, have tried to search this thread but lots of results on 'SSD' because it is in a lot of signatures!

    In my 6400 I want to swap out my HD with an SSD just for OS and other progs, second drive is 320gb for docs etc.

    being lazy can anybody point me to one that they have used that 'just works' please?

    Looking for something at least 200gb

    :)

    EDIT;

    how does this look?

    I'm using that one (Crucial m4) as a system disk and it works fine. Using a 500gb/7200 as 2nd drive.

    since my Bios update to A10 i have the scroll lock flashing, everything else seems fine.

    Note Num lock & Caps are off.

    This does not seem to be a valid error code??

    from Dell;

    "Diagnostic Light Codes During POST
    To troubleshoot a problem with your computer, read the sequence of the keyboard status lights in order from left to right (Num Lock, Caps Lock, and then Scroll Lock). If the computer malfunctions, the individual lights display a status of either On , Off , or Flashing ."

    I've had an M6400 for about two years. I run 2x Samsung P256 SSDs in RAID 0. While this combo had high sequential read/wirte speeds around 300MB/s, I never got above 14MB/s 4K read and 4MB/s 4K write. Better than an HDD, but not by that much and certainly nowhere near the current crop of SSDs. Over time, the drives have gotten slower as they settled into a degraded state and without TRIM, there doesn't seem to be any hope they will improve with age.

    I'm looking to upgrade and was considering:

    1) Crucial m4 256GB SSD + WD Scorpio Black 750GB HDD (non-RAID)

    2) Crucial m4 512GB SSD + WD Scorpio Black 750GB HDD (non-RAID)

    3) 2x m4 256GB SSDs in RAID 0 (same equivalent to what I have now)

    4) 2x m4 512GB SSDs in RAID 0 (double the space, but pricey!)

    What I am wondering is that given that the M6400 is SATA2, not SATA3, will I even see any kind of performance increase in RAID? Is the RAID controller capped at 300MB/s or will it go higher than SATA2?

    Would I be better off with a single SSD that can use TRIM and a bigger (and cheaper) 750GB HDD for additional file storage than with a large single-volume SSD RAID set?

    Has anyone tried to RAID the current generation of super-fast SSDs on the M6400?

    My M6400 (specs below) is being replaced by Dell, leaving me with a brand new spare battery. Anyone want it, cheap?

    Hi all,
    I am upgrading an M6400 with an X9100.
    After installing the cpu and aplying thermal paste,the computer does not boot at all.My Bios is A07 could be this the reason?.Should I upgrade to Bios A10?
    The x9100 works great in another laptop,so the cpu is not the problem.
    Any help would be welcome.
    Thanks.

    Hi,

    I've searched this thread (and others) to no avail and would like to know if anyone has any knowledge of an Expresscard or something that would allow me to capture HD video on the M6400.

    I am trying to capture HDMI from this camera :

    NEX-VG10 | Interchangeable Lens Handycam Camcorder | Sony | Sony Style USA

    and output live to a 60" Sharp Quattron (or equivalent) via the DVI port on the 210 W port replicator.

    Is this feasible with this machine ? I really don't want to have to buy the 6600 right now. I will eventually, but not right now : )

    Thanks,

    JF
