Answer to question #1, ditch the control point software. IMO

i have two NTB for test.
M6400 and M4400 with "the same" configurations.

    CPU T9900
    RAM 8Gb
    HDD 250Gb...

Both NTB is installed WinXP 64-bit...

Hdd not from the same manufacturer.
    On M4400 is WD
    On M6400 is Seagate

I find that the special start OS M4400 is noticeably faster and the same is also the start of applications (Catia V5R19).

Has anyone encountered a similar behavior?

Anyone else having problems with their eSata?

Bought the top of the line Lacie 4 Big Quadra 4TB and after a month and a never ending list of problems cannot get eSata to work properly. See below for system details.

Days of hours dealing with Dell and Lacie tech suppport. Lacie has shipped 2 units and they have the same problems when connected via eSata to my M6400.
Problems such as unable to recognize 4TB which was eventually solved by connecting via USB, formatting GPT, etc. then switching over to eSata.

Now eSata marks 2TB as bad sectors on disk error check which I did because of 1.3MB/s transfer!

Dell says contact Lacie. Lacie says its the M6400 and I agree with them.

Above problems are just a sample of the weird eSata problems which Lacie techs have not seen before. Problems go away when using USB connection.

Is there a specific eSata driver that can be uninstalled and reinstalled without messing with internal HD's (which are RAID 0, see below)?

    Thanks.

Have you tried it with another setup besides the Lacie? I'm no technician and don't have anything to offer other than I bought some offbrand box and stuck a Seagate 3.5" drive in it and all three partitions on it work fine. It''s sort of hard to nail down a diagnosis if you're testing with the same hardware. Try another e-sata drive and if that doesn't work then it's the m6400 most likely. I don't know how else you can pin down where your problem is and it sounds like Dell and Lacie are dodging responsibility unless you can prove to one of them it's their fault.

Lacie 4TB comes with eStata, 1394b, 1394, and USB cables.

The eSata has become a huge waste of time and does not work.

So next on the speed list is 1394b.

But the Lacie 1394 cable is the one that fits the M6400.

It looks like Dell made the older and slower 1394 available (which does not make sense).

    Does the M6400 have 1394b or 1394?
Can one have different connector ends on 1394b?

I'm hopeing the M6400 is 1394b but with an older style connector to make it backward compatible with 1394 devices.
If so, where does one find a 1394b cable with a 1394b connector at one end and a 1394 at the other?

    Thanks.

    So your eSata works fine?

I have 2 Lacie 4TB boxes and both have irratic problems. I don't have any other eSata boxes. When connect via USB they are okay.

Is your external eSata over 2TB?

I see you are running Win7 64bit so that is another difference.

Another wrinkle is that the Lacie 4 big were not certified for Vista 64bit (which I found out this week and US Lacie tech is not sure about the implications, if any).

Any M6400 Vista 64bit user running eSata above 2 TB (and no problems)?
