I have been reading this forum for the past few weeks.
Thanks to all members for the discussions and information provided. (I went through 120 pages on M6400).
I'd like to think I found what I'm looking for in the M6400 Covet.

I'm in Canada and the only RGB LED E2E option is for the COVET.
http://www.dell.ca (you can find it under small business)

Here is what I'm looking at:
    Quad 2.53
    FX3700
    Vista 64 Bit
    RGB LED E2E
    128GB SSD
    8GBRam (4 dimms)
    Total Price is about $6000

What do the owners think? Are there still problems with this machine?

Do you know the 128GB SSD what brand it is? I called Dell today and the sales rep told me is Seagate. I asked if he's sure, to check, etc... He said Seagate SSD which is only produced for Dell. Is there such a thing? I searched online but no real info on Seagate SSD except that they want to enter the market in 2009. I thought they were Samsung drives.

Does anyone have any specs, testing, info on this drive?
Essentially I want to set this up as Raid 0 with 2 SSD's but Dell website does not allow for a secondary SSD except 64Gb.

Should I just order without SSD and just purchase the SSD's somewhere else?? (What brand? My head hearts... too much reading on this SLC, MLC, etc...)

I have some more questions but I don't want to create a long list of questions and no one reads it :)

On another note... if I look at DELL US website the M6400 can only be configured with Max 4gb ram and no option for 64bit.. Is this true or is Dell filtering ip's from Canada????? Can someone check?

    I appreciate your help!
    Thanks.
    Corry

I figured the Dell US site. You have to actually use the "Narrow your selection" on the left side...little different than Dell Canada.

Maybe some of you can answer some other questions...
I've seen a lot of people recommend re-installing the OS.
Does Dell actually include a copy of the OS install media without the bloatware???
Last time I ordered a Dell all I got was some sort of restore thing that would re-install all the crap with it.

If I order with one drive, does it still come with the raid controller and ability to add another drive?
I would like to setup at least 2x128GB SSD's but Dell doesn't offer that option.
I just want to make sure I can do it. I'm debating if I should just order with the basic 160Gb drive and once I get it take it out and install the 2 SSD's (after-market).
I'd like to have 2 identical drives and I can't find out what 128 SSD Dell offers.

    Hi

First at all, I owned my Covet since March 3th, iorder it at Feb. 19th.
I do this by the German Website Configurator and because there are some wrong constraints in the configurator, i call Dell.
Very very Friendly service, the Sellers there have much more options to configure than the different Configurators (small Buisness, large Business, ..)

So Call them and explain them your needs

At the end they give me that online order offer about 479,-€ and go down with the price for more 300;-€ at the end.

My Covet was shipped with Dell Driver DVD (i order it, with the machine) and an included DVD for Win Vista bit

    regards
    Christopher

Raid controller is standard - no matter how you configure it.

2nd HD or 2 x SSD can be added anytime you want and configured RAID 0 or RAID 1.

I've never heard of the SSD, but I wouldn't put it past Dell and Seagate. Upgrading it aftermarket may be cheaper, but keep in mind, you loose support for your storage drives.

As for your graphics (especially with the QX9300 CPU), you could suffer from overheating. I've heard that the Quadro 3700 is essentially a 2700 with more power pumped into it, so it runs hotter. Apparently, it stretches the limits of the cooling system.
If it isn't absolutely critical, I'd go with the 2700. If you're getting the 3700, just don't plan on gaming on your lap.

    Thanks.

Well, the problem is the COVET in Canada only comes with 3700 (no other option).
Also, this is the only one with RGB LED.

That sounds really weird, weirdo :D
The FX 3700 runs cooler under full load (70°C) in the M6400 than the FX 770 in my M4400 under normal load (73°C). Of course I only have a T9400, but even with the quad-core it shouldn't be a problem for the cooling system to cool the FX3700 down! I never read only overheating problems with the quadcore and the FX3700 in the M6400!

YOU HAVE TO READ THIS !!!

I did....read till the end... They offered me a 10% discount (about $600 canadian of $6,000).

I don't know... the sales repd did not inspire confidence. Somehow, I don't believe the SSD drives are made by Seagate. The regular drives are. I don't think he knows what I'm talking about. There seems to be a language barrier and intermittent phone quality issues. Dell sales dept is in India.

Funny thing was I did a chat live thing with Dell and then the sales rep asked me to call him at Dell. The number he gave me was a s&x (p@rn) phone line.
What the fu$&??? I swear. I'm not kidding.
As soon as you dial all you hear is ahhhhh, ooohhh, etc... give it to me ... etc... no intro ... or anything else.... First I thought it was a funny commercial. After 20 seconds I realised that is no commercial anymore...Lucky I wasn't on the speakerphone at the office. Hope they don't track my number and embarass me...

The number that he gave me was 1-866-849-3355
I gave him sh!t and all he said was sorry and gave me the right number.... Nice One...

    Dell number is 1-866-489-3355.

After this... should I trust what the rep offers me?????????
    :)))
