I think the best solution for you is to buy precision but m4700. From that what i know they support this nvidia m2000m and only you have to is custom inf file in drivers. Of course if you wanna invest in that GPU.

Yeah, m2000m is a great card but it costs $250 minimum.

The reason I'm getting M4600 is because I got a used unit for only $110.
    I'm throwing another $100 for that M5100 card. So technically, I'm getting M6600 + K3000M power for only $200.
    M6600 with K3000M costs $400.
If M5100 is better than K3000M, you're paying only 50% of price to get something better in a smaller form factor.

I would recommend FirePro M5100 & M4600 combo over M6600 & K3000M combo. M6600 is heavy enough to hurt your spine when you carry it in a backpack.

I'm thinking about getting M4700 much later... M4800 would be great too!

My PSU i 220W. I know that this laptop recognize max 240W PSU(on non-modify bios). But you can avoid that problem if you replace little chip inside PSU, there is one there which send information about how many Watts your PSU have. I don't how look this from laptop, is it control power consumption in real-time and have some control section, but i doubt.

You are right but you lose opportunity to upgrade your station for 200$. I would rather find GTX 680m for that money or little more(maybe sell K3000m) and have really powrefull laptop

    That's true. I was thinking about M6600 & K5000M setup.
However, M6600 is simply too heavy and big to carry around everyday. I feel 15" is more for me...
if M5100 is better than K3000M, I think it's a good deal because K3000M can already deal with demanding graphic software. I'm selling my M6600 for $300.

Has the k3000m been known to work in the m6600? I'm thinking about getting a GTX 765m (Lower clocked desktop GTX 670) but people have been reporting issues with the GK106 chip. Although the GK104/k3000m is a different chip, they're the same architecture.

K3000M does not work in the M6600 — at least, that has been the working knowledge from people who have tried it. Are you sure that you have a K3000M, or is it just a regular Quadro 3000M (without the "K")?

Nope, K3000M works very well in M6600.
K4000M, K5000M all work very well in M6600.

    K3100M, K4100M, K5100M don't work in M6600....

K series work like charm with M6600, regular quadro work good too.
