    Hi!

Any success in putting a Kepler on a (Premiercolor) M4600? I have a HP K1100M left over after an upgrade so I was wondering about the state of the art in this respect. Afaik, it used to be a problem 1-2 years ago.

To respond to myself: the Quadro 2000M heatsink does not seem to work on the K1100M. The latter chip is visibly lower than the former relative to the PCB so there is no contact between heatsink and GPU chip. Despite all attempts to make it work, I gave up.

I've taken the plunge and upgraded (via clean install) to Windows 10. Everything that I use so far seems to be working well apart from adjusting the display brightness. The graphical sliders in display settings and the fn+arrow key methods no not have any effect. The FN keys bring up a vertical brightness meter and the bar moves up and down, but the actual brightness remains unchanged. I looked for the Intel HD3000 driver, but the one on the intel site is older than the version that Windows 10 already found.

    Any ideas? - Many thanks.

Try using the latest drivers from Dell's site (for Windows 7/8). I seem to remember a peculiarity with the M4600/M6600 and the Intel graphics, where you had to use Dell's drivers for the brightness control to work --- but it's been a while, I may be thinking about something else.

Alternately, you can disable Optimus which will let the NVIDIA GPU drive the display.

If it does turn out that the Dell drivers are the only ones that work, you may find Windows 10 installing newer ones from Windows Update without giving you a choice. This tool will let you block a particular update from being applied. (This will probably need to be repeated every time a new driver for the Intel GPU is pushed out.)

Thanks, that may well be the issue. I tried the driver from Dell, but whenever I install it, the NVIDIA GUI says "Nvidia Installer Cannot Continue: Required Files Missing". Digging into the log file shows "Name of Exit Code: ERROR_INSTALL_PLATFORM_UNSUPPORTED"

I've tried playing with the Windows 10 compatibility settings - trying the regular function and also forcing Win 7 and Win 8 modes. Anything else I can try? I'd rather not disable Optimus, but I also use my laptop in low light and the full-power display is not something I think I can tolerate long term.

    Many thanks.

I'm actually referring to the Intel GPU driver from Dell, since that it was drives the internal display when Optimus is enabled.

Hi guys, I'm seriously considering a refurbished 4600 to replace my M14xR2, which I've been using really wrong as a workstation and no gaming LoL :)
I need a quadro (or ati) professional card support for teh software I'm using (Allplan Nemetscheck, Revit).
I've been looking at those 4600's for a while. I was wondering if someone has succeeded in upgrading the Graphics card to a k2100m, should I decide to do it in the future. I'm also curious about battery life and general temperature performance. I hope there won't be any thermal throttling. Any known issues I should be aware of?

I'm looking at one m4600 with 1366x768 screen - do you think that I can replace it with a HD screen easily - I can see there are such screens sold on ebay for about 100$ including shipping and taxes.

The other thing is the CPU - the one I'm looking at has the 2820QM - is it an unlocked multiplier CPU and can it be overclocked?

One more - it comes with the lowest end AMD 5950 Fire Pro - I will be using that for a while I guess, but I was wondering if it supportd switchable graphics or at least disabling the ATI Gpu in Bios, should I decide to use it on battery for a longer period of time.
