Awesome. I went for it. It should be here within a week. I'll have to look into getting a bluetooth card, backlit keyboard, and possibly a webcam + new bezel for it. I've heard the 9 cell batteries last all day on these units. Hopefully the one I get isn't crapped out.

I recently picked one of these up for $260 refurb. The motherboard went out after 31 days . Replaced that, the hard drives, and the RAM and now it runs like a dream.

    i7-2720QM, 16GB DDR3-1600, 1080p (not the fancy one), Quadro 1000m, 120GB mSATA SSD, 120GB 2.5" SSD (non-RAID), 500GB HDD in the optical bay.

Using it as a DAW, I can get 32x32 channels of 48k, 24 bit audio through USB with low latency, with plenty of overhead for a bunch of plug-ins.

I'll probably get a backlit keyboard and BT module, and put the Quadro 2000m in next (love me some Optimus), but it's pretty close to where I want it right now.

Best money I've ever spent. Just wanted to share.

I was about to say. the IDT audio on this thing is absolutely terrible, how are you using this for audio work? this thing pops and cracks all over the place with and without stock audio drivers. Then I saw USB. I was like LOL.
How do you like USB audio out? what do you use? just curious. thanks

Strange about the crackling, etc. The IDT on my M6700is average, but I don't have the issues you're describing. Anyways, Anthony, depending on what you want to do, DAW or just bypass the IDT that's giving you issues, there are different devices.

If all you want to do is bypass the integrated audio to listen to music and movies without the sound issues, a cheap USB sound card will do. Professional grade stuff is much more expensive. There's also the expresscard firewire adapter solution for pro grade gear that uses firewire.

I've got it running with a Midas M32. It's rock solid for hours. The Midas has really good buffering though (it uses the Klark Teknik I/O card for the USB interface).

Does anyone know if UEFI actually works in the M4600? There's a BIOS (vA16) option to switch to UEFI but I haven't seen any feedback as to whether it is functioning.

UEFI works. Note, you'll have to either reinstall your OS or do some work to change the partition layout if you switch.

Is it UEFI? Or Hybrid UEFI?

It doesn't have a full UEFI implementation (no native resolution, secure boot, seamless boot, other missing features). These were not added until M4700/6700. However, you can boot a UEFI OS (Windows or Linux) without issue.
