Glad you deleted your original post. The price you quoted for what you got could only please some commission-sales person at Dell. Ridiculously over-priced.

Is it normal for IPS screens to have this so called IPS glow and tinting at the corners?

I do not quite fancy paying £400 for a defective screen. At that premium price I'd expect a perfect screen display.

Glow is natural (I mean the effect when looking at dark screen from some angle) - I think it is necessity in IPS technology. I have external IPS monitor - it has similar glow as my M4600 display. As to the tint - some reported they have it, some didn't. I have it (green coloration in left bottom corner on white background) and will try to exchange my display, but first I must collect some posts stating no problems with the display.

Guys I need some advice as I need a laptop and deciding between this and the hp envy. Does this laptop have good build quality close to apple
And lenevo? Cnet said it had quality control issues. Ram bays? Is the firepro good for gaming? Some articles say it is worse than it's equal 6770m in gaming because it's a pro card. Is the non ips 1080p screen bright? Hows the audio output quality?

    Hi, m11x,

what purpose do you intend to buy it for?

Audio won't be as good as in the HP Envy as it is a workstation and has no subwoofers and fancy stuff like that. To my knowledge though they both use the same Intel HD audio solution built on the chipset. So listening to music on your headphones should not make a difference.

Regarding the video i would say that they have about hte same gaming specs ragarding to this table here:

Welche Spiele laufen auf Notebook Grafikkarten flüssig? - Notebookcheck.com Technik/FAQ

Look up the Radeon HD 7690M and you will find the Firepro M5950 right below. If you will check the table back later you might even get displayed some framerates of some games for the 7690. Saying that the 5950 is the same in gaming like the 6770 might be true but may also depend on the game. Actually the table suggests that they are the same and that the 6770 is even slower than the 5950, but I think the tester of the 5950 simply had the better processor and overall specs.

The Dell Precision has 4 Ram bays allowing up to 32 GB (with quad cores only) and the HP Envy seems to have only 2 due to the maximum of 16 GB you can configure it with.

Regarding build quality I can not complain about the Dell even though the HP Envy looks more stylish (btw: I am talking about the newly released HP Envy 15 Series in this post). The Dell does not feel like an apple though - I would consider it more robust.

The screen is very bright. If you have no torch at hand but your Precision it does the job ;D. Articles suggest that it is the among the brightest in business notebooks.

Your company is too generous! Or at least you are being so with their money. Sans an IPS and over $4400 for that machine??!! Are you buying it in Europe??

I don't know if Apple gives 3-year NBD warranty for their hardware, but I think this warranty tells much about (general) build quality. :)
