Mine acts the same way, very annoying when placed in a bedroom where you are trying to sleep.

I thought mine was the only one that made that noise when the fan spun up for a few seconds. I was starting to think that it was my missing screw.

My fan used to do that but it hasn't in the past 3 or so days.

Er, no, that isn't what I am referring to at least. Mine is a normal fan sound, but it is the frequency in which the fans spin up which become annoying. Feels like a duration of about 5 seconds, every 60 seconds. That can't be good on the fan itself...

yeah the frequency drives me crazy. but i found out that when i turn powerplay off and switch to powersaving mode, close the laptop, then its quite. but anyway, im very disappointed. so poor that dell hasnt come up with a solution yet. still waiting for that driver update for ati. maybe it will change the fan management as well. doesnt dell look in forums like this to see what the costumers are complaining about ?!?!

Yeah, I know what you're referring to. That's what I was referring to when I said it hasn't happened in 3 days. Sorry. I worded my post poorly. Can I blame it on being up past 2AM writing a paper?

If you mean fan turning on - I think everyone gets this. But this click just before fan turning on - I don't think I can hear it in mine.

It does appear like disabling Powerplay takes care of this. Thanks. Just wish that wasn't necessary.

Mhh, general question first: We are talking about the right (when sitting in front of the notbook) fan (GPU), right?
Both of my fans do the clicking noise before starting up as well. It is interesting that you don't expirience that, M-Z.

A question regarding another noise: Do you hear a high pitched buzzing sound once your processor runs in Turbo-Boost mode?

I just figured that I could have configured mine with the newer generation 2760QM Processor....Man, if i had known that a little earlier I would have been granted 0.2 Ghz more at no additional charge. To all those who configure their M4600: The newer generation Processors (with a 2x60-ending opposed to a 2x20-ending) are under the "Others" tab in the processor configuration module on the website (at least in Germany, option not yet available in the US)! Take those!
Consider this: The 2860QM already beats the 2920XM performancewise.

If only I had known before...Hope it helps!

Right - Dell.co.uk also shows the 2760QM available - does it use the same motherboard?

Also, why would the US be so behind - as the US always led in leading-edge tech?
