Yea, I usually turn off the laptop once I'm done.
You can replace the cd drive with a HDD like I did. If not, I think you should get the Dell msata one at least you will have the warranty with it. I don't know much about the OCZ msata so I don't know about that.

replacing the DVD drive is not a choice for me as I'll need it frequently. As far as I know, dell doesn't even offer msata ssd's....

So anyone knows about the OCZ drive or which kind of ram to buy? CL7 or CL9? I'm so confused

Dell does offer msata SSD. It is cheap if buy together with the system but expensive after that.

Ditto here. My M4600 is a week old and the bezel around the display rattles. My son has a W520 and the build quality is much better. Even my daughter's SL410, which is a relatively inexpensive laptop, has a much more solid feel. I like this computer, but it does not appear to be very well made.

Is build quality of M4600 worse than M4500's? I hope your answers are negative.

overall i think it is pretty similar. but the m4500 has a horribly fitting optical drive which kind of rattles with you touch and play around with it.

The bezel that i mentioned is really the same with m4500 and m4600. I think it is even the same material.

Not sure if I got a lemon, but my keyboard bezel is not 100% well fitting. I can hear minor sound of disability when I deliberately try to feel it. the plastic palm rest in the area of right hinge hole clicks and when i press the general area.

    Hi boss428man,

I had the M4600 with 5950M FirePro, but returned it because I could not connect 4 monitors when undocked (1.VGA, 2. HDMI, 3. DisplayPort, + 4. laptop screen). I bought even one "active adapter" AMD Eyefinity Validated B087B-005B, yet I could only connect 3 monitors (without docking station).

For those who want to connect 3 external monitors plus laptop screen, do not recommend buying the M4600 with "AMD FirePro M5950."

The Dell website says (see point 6 on the tab overview):
    • AMD Eyefinity technology supports up to five displays when docked or four when undocked (THIS IS NOT TRUE)

I have no docking station, so that I could not test it.

From what I read, you have 5 monitors connected (including the Laptop Display). I guess you're using a docking station to connect both Dell (1920x1200) via DVI. You do not mention the connection Displayport. It would be nice to know, if you have the opportunity:
    1. How many monitors can be connected only to the laptop without docking station (undocked)?
    2. How many monitors can be connected using the docking station? (when docked)

4 is probably the max with a quadro.. 2 Driven by the quadro and 2 by the cpu.. If you need more then that you probably should by a desktop. So with current hardware... 3 external and 1 laptop display would be the max.

The M4600 has only 3 ports (1 x vga, 1 x hdmi, 1 x displayport) so you can only have 3 external monitors without a docking station. I can't imagine why you wouldn't get a docking station with so many monitors. I have a docking station and I have only one external monitor, plus keyboard and mouse.
