Can the M4600 function with the integrated graphics in the CPU alone? What if I just pull off the discrete graphics card?

Yes, this is called nVidia Optimus.
If you really think about this you should sell your M4600 and get an E6420 instead imho.

as an update to the problem i was having with the runcore t50 msata drive not working in the wwan slot.

to test my theory, i went and bought the intel 310 80gb and put it in the wwan slot. it was detected and works just fine.

so i'm waiting for runcore support to see if there is a work around to get it working. if not i'll get a refund on it and keep using the intel . apparently the runcore t50 didnt work in the m6600 either nor in i a m4500.

what were they thinking ?! if it doesnt work in the latest dell, exactly what laptop were they planning to use that new t50 drive in ?

thanks for getting back. The workstation support called me back to assist me and everything is working fine now.

Well I put my laptop to sleep so using it only delayed a couple seconds, but surely the booting time increased significantly.

Optimus is special over SWITCHABLE graphics that it will automatically switch to integrated as soon as it detects that you dont need the power of raw gpu. This is very very efficient this way.

As an example, when running the 3dmark06 test and the cpu test within it, i noticed from the gpuz sensor that the dedicated gpu was immediately disabled since it isnt using that dedicated gpu.

Like the previous post said, you got the M4600 for gpu and build quality. And with nvidia optimus that is sooo effiicient, you no longer have to sacrifice battery life.

Great job for creating this Nvidia, and implementing well Dell.

BTW guys I was able to overclock the 2000M to 770Mhz / 1080mhz memory. 3dmark06 increased from 11000 to 13800. 7.1,7.1 score for win7 index

I used Systools. Afterburner and EVGA software did not work due to mhz limit ceiling, just like how price ceiling set by the government is inefficient.

Anyways, anyone know any software that will let me oc memory more than 1080mhz? The gpu core essentially overclocked 40% from stock. That is very very very impressive for these new chips from nvidia. So much potentials.

I got 72 degrees max running furmark. The problem however is that due to power usage perhaps, my cpu throttled pretty bad during prime95+furmark.

Is there a way to fix this??? Increasing of TDP? -> There is no throttle so far when using ultra performance power setting.

Edit: 1080mhz for memort seems to be kind of unstable. I reduced to 1070mhz and running more stress testing.. Like usual the memory is the bottleneck. I am really surprised though that it wont even oc 20%.. This is bad.

CPUZ says that when I am only running prime95, it is using 3.2ghz both cores. When using with furmark, around 3-3.1 ghz. Is this true or glitch with the nonupdated software? The base I thought was 2.7, but it seems too good to be true. I notice that there is 0.01v difference made automatically between 3 and 3.1ghz. Hmmm this is turboboost 2.0 feature?

Don't you have to put "domain/üsername and then use your finger?

Unless there is some setting to turn off the former option. That was what annoyed me.

all i had to do is put the username in the FIRST time i logged on. like right now, all i have to do is scan and punch in password. Honestly, if u put your laptop to sleep, essentially the only time u r wasting is for the reader to read your fingerprint.

    Hello gentlemen,

My M4600 (1000M, i7-2720QM, 2GB RAM, IPS screen) is on it's way and I am having a tough time choosing RAM- since I was too cheap to configure my system with 8GB of RAM from Dell straight away.
Stock is 2GB of 1333Mhz Ram - now should I put in CL7 or CL9 RAM? Which kind is the "stock" 1333Mhz type RAM?

I also want to put in an SSD in addition to the HDD and DVD drive. This means I am restricted to using an mSATA SDD, right? If I choose the OCZ Nocti with 60 or 120 gig, would that be a suitable SSD to run the OS off?

    thanks!

I agree, if you are hearing the on/off fan noise in a quiet room while trying to sleep, that would drive me crazy too.

The fan speed does change with temperature, it just happens that one of these speeds is "off." That's what I was saying about the great cooling system in there, during light usage it frequently doesn't need the fans at all. If you would like to hear the difference in fan speeds, run a benchmark such as Furmark or Prime95. Then you will hear them throttle up to a higher speed, but it still isn't all that loud. I'll never forget my friend's old Dell laptop that sounded like a fighter jet engine because the fans were so loud. That thing was terrible.
