I know; but the lines have, throughout the years, seen some overlap. For instance, the Latitude D830 and the Precision 15" (forget the model number) were identical laptops except for the video chip and one piece of plastic. The m4600 seems to have carried on with the relatively 'boxy' and solid design heritage, while the Latitudes have drifted ever-increasingly towards being indistinguishable from Dell's "consumer" laptops, ostensibly to deliver a unit at a lower price point.

Just ordered mine too from Dell! :) It's a ultra stripped down basic version though.

i5-2520M, non-LED FHD screen, 2GB ram (I'll upgrade it myself), 250GB HDD, FirePro M5950. Not even a backlit keyboard!

The built time is really long, takes 3 weeks :(

Sure, just keep in mind that the drive is already half full:

    Hi all,

My M4600 came in yesterday, pretty nice bit of kit.

I got the following main components:

    • i7-2720M
    • FirePro M5950
    • AG LED Panel

I've put in a 250GB Vertex 3 (we'll see how long it lasts) and am upgrading the RAM to 16GB.

Does anyone know how to get to the RAM slots 2 and 4? It's easy enough getting to slots 1 and 3 along with most other areas by removing the back panel, for reference you do the following:

    • Remove the battery
    • Remove the visible screws holding the back panel
    • Push the back panel slightly to the rear and lift it off

I'm just having a hard time getting to the other RAM slots, I presume I have to lift of the keyboard to get to the other side of the mobo but was wondering is anyone had played with that yet?

Don't the DIMMs just sit one on top of the other?

Does anyone get 9-cell (97Wh) batteries?
Dell China supplies only 9-cell (87Wh) batteries.
Does the 9-cell battery protruding outside M4600 conspicuously?
Is it inconvient to replace the battery?
How long is average running time with battery power for average applications?

How's the quality of the screen?
