    Hi afhstingray,
After pondering on the lack of ALS, IMHO I think it's a blessing because of saving a great deal of CPU resource in detecting the lighting changes.

Thanks for the pictures but are we sure the guy's right?

I can go on Dell and configure an M4600 with 4 DIMMs, as long as you go with an i7 quad core.

The i5 and i7 dual core's are only configurable with 2 DIMMS.

So, from that, I would guess the physical configuration is different between the two (maybe different mobo) and if Dell is selling the M4600 with 4 DIMMS the slots must be in there somewhere, if you have the right chip.

Edit - My bad, I just read the opening section of that article where the guys states the difference between the configurations.

I'm just trying to find out how to get to the 3rd and 4th DIMM slots if they are available.

Try looking under the keyboard. Thats where they hide it a lot of the times, not sure about the Precisions though.

Thanks, that's what I was thinking. I was hoping someone might have already done it so I could just follow some instructions and wouldn't have to pioneer it, I'll let you know how it turns out .. ;).

All good and installed with 4x4GB GSkill DIMMS in there, here are some brief instructions for anyone wanting to get to the two DIMM slots under the keyboard:

    • Take the battery out.
    • Hit the power button.
    • Pop the plastic panel surrounding the keyboard, it's easiest to start at the back on each side and then work forward.
    • You'll find four screws at the leading edge of the keyboard, remove these.
    • The sides of the keyboard are held in with little tabs on the chassis. Work your way from the front to back on each side to release the keyboard from the tabs.
    • Slide out the keyboard to the front.
    • Remove the keyboard ribbon, if you want.
    • You'll see both the DIMM slots available.
    • Reverse to put back together.

I'll add some pics if anyone's interested.

What is the battery life with the 9 cell battery and the FirePro GPU? In the massive thread about both the M4600 and M6600, havoctex said it should be 5-6 hours, but in this thread, iieeann said it's only 2.5 hours of browsing the web. Which is it? I need around 4 hours of web-browsing; 2.5 is completely unacceptable.

Also, with the FirePro 8900M in the M6600, it seems to be possible to install the Radeon drivers for higher gaming performance. Has anyone tried this trick with the M5950?

how many times have you seen a t9600 or a core i7 even twitch because of that? it has nothing to do with cpu.. and even if it did we are not talking about a 486 44 mhz cpu here:rolleyes:

so to confirm, is it for sure that the dual core processors have only 2 DIMM slots? If that's the case I might have to reconsider and get a quad core.
