Correct. However, if you do not have a page file on the system partition, you will not get crash dumps in the event of a BSOD. Just something to be aware of, you may or may not care. Of course, Win7 never has a BSOD. Seriously, I have never seen one on my machines ;)

Well, you may get into the habit of never shutting down your machine, and instead just putting it to sleep. Extremely convenient, because it reduces your boot time to near-zero (and renders all those silly boot-time discussions moot). However, your system will still draw a current in this state, meaning you can run out of battery. If that happens, being able to hibernate can give some essential peace of mind. Again, whether or not you are interested in this feature depends on your usage pattern, so, yes, some people may not see a loss in eliminating the hibernation file.

I moved the pagefile to my D drive and turned off hiberfil.

    A net gain of 16GB

Is there any benefit to running compression on the system drive?

    SSD Capacity Before
SSD capactiy before relocating pagefile and removing hiberfil.jpg

    SSD Capacity After
SSD capacity after moving pagefile and hiberfil.jpg

    Compression gave me another 1GB

    HOW TO: Change pagefile.sys location
    1. Go to control panel > system and security > system
    2. Click on advanced tab
    3. In the performance section click on settings
    4. Again click on Advanced > click on Change in the Virtual Memory section

I tried to overclock the graphics card ( FX1800M) using the Nvidia control panel but I can't , no matter increase is of only 1 MHz. I read somewhere that to solve this I have to overclok the shader speed first and then the core but the problem still persists. I get a message like "changes won't be applied". Has anyone experienced the same problem?

The best test would be to see how the compression affects speed. My guess is that compression makes a noticeable difference in speed, making it not worth it, but this is only a guess.

For only 1GB, however, it may not be worth it at all even if there is no speed cost.

I compressed the drive which saved about 1GB of space. I re-ran CrystalMark for comparison

The difference of 1 GB would not be worth the performance loss to me. Also, I bet that you will see significantly higher CPU usage with compression on - which means additional heat - and less battery life.

New member finally pulling the trigger on one. I got the HD+ version, couldn't find an 1800m on the outlet so I went with the 880m, and bought the 2gb version so I can upgrade the ram. When purchasing the ram, should I just look for a 4gb DDR3 1333mhz card? Does brand matter or are there any other specifications I need to look for? For instance, I see pc10666 vs. pc10600? This workstation will be using matlab, cad, and other engineering image-rendering software.

Dell Used 8GB of Hynix in my setup. You can find Hynix 8GB (2 x 4GB) for around $200 online.

My next project is to try to setup two 500GB HDD's in RAID 0 configuration.

I picked up a HDD adapter for the Modular Bay.

Does anyone have experience with this configuration on the M4500?

Dangit, figures...as soon as I order, my wife clears the extra funds for an m6500... Think Dell will cancel if they know I'm going to be spending more money?
