More specifically, one might wish for Dell to post a DOS boot image plus utilities to transfer that to a USB stick or CD/DVD, so that people would be able to install such updates without having to ask for third-party help.

Just got an update on my order. I placed the order on 5/4 with an original delivery date of 5/26. They updated my delivery date to 6/24! Anyone know of reason for delay?

Ordered a M4500 on 5/13, initial delivery date was 5/27, just "revised" to 6/25!?
    No explaination.

...Had the same thing happen with a Lenovo order that I canceled (after waiting 1.5 months), from reading this forum it seemed like Dell was actually able to track their inventory and was shipping on time. Apparently their pulling the same BS as Lenovo. Disappointing. I'd cancel today and buy a preconfigured system if I could find one with the 920XM / FX1800 & just buy the upgrades separate. Sheesh.

Anyone know what's causing these delays?

I don't know that I necessarily agree. I'm in the same boat where I'm trying to decide between the 2. The W510 FHD has much wider color gamut then the Precision, which for photo work can be the decision maker.

Still waiting to see if Dell offers a wider gamut screen in the new Precisions/Latitudes.

Doesn't the M4500 have the RGBLED screen? If so, it should be better than the W510's screen.

Use the driver it came with. That's the best you can do overall. You can find drivers that may be very slightly better in sepcific areas, but usually at the cost of reduced functionality. In particular, in my experience all of the nVidia drivers in the 19x series are more or less broken.
