I've plugged old Latitude D830 adapters in to my M4500 from time to time. A warning pops up saying it's not a the correct size adapter, but as far as I can tell it works ok (i.e. the laptop continues to operate as it normally does under AC power). My M4500 had a i7-620 cpu, so it doesn't suck quite as much juice as a quad core.

I have tried 65W adapter and it powers the machine but locks CPU at 1.2Ghz. (I have i7-820QM)
I guess it is 1.8 inch drive which was officially supported even on M4400. However unofficially you can fit two 2.5 inch drives (I currently use 2x 500GB 7200rpm)

I use dell 5530 in my M4500. It doesn't work in windows (bad dell drivers) but in linux it is just fine. Only issue with it is that if you are in really quiet environment you can hear one speaker go tudy-tudy-tudy (you know the sound when you put mobile phone near speaker)

The 'paces' benchmark is when I sit down when I have an extra hour or two to just screw around with my new toy.

It would be more useful if prices were posted along with. This way people get an idea of how much they can get this things down from the price on the website...

As others said, this won't hurt anything. In fact, if you order the E-Port plus with an E6400 Dell will ship you a 130W adapter to use with it...

I just got a quote for both a i7-620M and i7-820QM equipped M4500 on Monday, The 620M quote was well over their website price (not sure why) and the 820QM came in exactly at the website price. I let my sales rep know she was competing with the HP 8540w, but I guess only coupons count. This is one of several reasons I will be going with the HP (though I do intend to continue reading this thread for all the drama :D )

I was able to get an 8 or 9 percent discount through my Dell rep. Are you a Premier member?
