My i7 M4500 complains if anything less than 130W is charging it.

Do you have the fx1800m or fx880?

If you're asking about cards that were original OEM for this laptop, the 6300 was/is capable of 450Mbps. My question is that even if you have the 5G router, where would you use the bandwidth. Do you have an ultimately huge network streaming great amounts of data to the laptop? Most download speeds currently are yet to exceed 100M.

I haven't answered your question, but internally I don't believe there are any cards that will fit the M4500; however you do have the ability to use a PCMCIA or PC Express card of any brand that would give you that capability.

**The only dumb question is the one you don't ask.
The 4500 requires the 130w charger, mostly to enable it to use the quick charge feature of the original battery. You can turn this nag off in the BIOS. That being said; you could probably use a 60 or 65 watt adapter for class, the 90w flat (PA-3E) is a nice size though it doesn't have as nice of a cord handling wrap as the 60w (PA-12) for portability. You may find that the battery doesn't charge very quickly with the lower wattage units, but that wouldn't matter so much if you were plugging it in all the time anyway. The 9 cell should give you sufficient battery life for a few classes though. If you want ultimate life, use the Dell ON module and then take your notes in OneDrive or use the mini SSD that is available for your laptop.

I have 3 webcam streams downloading simultaneously and being screen-captured on it; plus another laptop doing the same thing with (usually) only one stream. Then there's my "working" laptop which I do the editing on, as well as emails, forums, playing videos, etc, as well as downloading and recording yet another stream with VLC. So probably a heavier load than average?

Yeah, heavier than average for sure.. Here's the deal; the router is transmitting wirelessly at 2.4 and 5 Ghz. The transmission rate is 450 and 1300 Mbps respectively, so what you are looking at is a combination 1750 Mbps wireless rated card for upgrading the machine. Check out this article, the fastest I have been able to come up with for a laptop is combined 1300Mbps:

Thanks for the reply. Gonna end up getting another 130w charger. Get sick of wiring my desk and taking it down every other day. Still havent gotten an i7 yet, the i5 has been trucking nicely for C and Java programming classes. Linux Mint runs pretty well on the m4500 without any major hassles, and I am running a dual SSD setup. I have a 240gb msata and a 128gb 2.5-inch drive :)

I'm running the single mSSD (64Gb) for the OS with a 7200 hard drive for data and applications. I'm running W8.1 Pro 64 and have the Dell ON flash option. It runs flawlessly and boot time is 20 seconds or so with 8Gb RAM. I have the I7 620 which I spec'd out because of the speed/batt life combination.

I bought one and cleaned it up. I7 920XM, FX1800m, 1920x1080, etc. I've cleaned it up and ordered some things to restore its former glory. (Screen back/hinges, bottom cover due to missing rubber feet, daughterboard for worn audio jack, and so on.) I've already replaced the keyboard with one in better condition, cleaned out the heatsink, cleaned the fan/greased it, etc. Performs pretty damn well. Using throttlestop I got the CPU to turbo high enough on all 8 core load to cause my 90w charger to cut out intermittently (4GHz) until I stopped the stress test. This isn't a problem as it will probably only ever charge off this charger and run mainly on a 130w charger (That for some reason none of my laptops will charge off, despite it being a genuine Dell. Might've been a docking station charger or something.)

Anyway, yea, just wanted to share. I plan to get a 128GB msata SSD, but then I don't know what I would put into the normal drive slot. Right now it's just running a slow as balls OCZ Vertex II 50GB SSD. I don't want to put an HDD there since I hate the vibrations and it would use up my battery, but I don't see the point of having a big slow 50GB SSD in it either as I don't even need 128GB of space on the thing.
