I installed my Intel 310 80GB SSD yesterday, below are the speed results if anyone is interested. I now have 3 SSD's intalled in my m4500 at the same time. 2x Intel x-25 160GB G2 (not in raid) one in the primary drive spot and one in the cd-rom bay using a newmodeus caddy and 1x Intel 310 GB drive in the miniSSD location.

All are working well, and no problems booting with the A07 Bios.

Does anyone have an extra M2x3mm screw they want to send me?

I dont know much about computers and I dont game or anything, Im just looking for something that will boot fast, easy on the battery and is reliable. I use excel, outlook, and about 4 other "low end" programs at the same time but nothing more.

I placed this order last week and am now getting cold feet wondering if I should cancel. I should stop reading this stuff. I do not really care about the cosmetics of the notebook, I just want it to work for me. Anyone know if this is a good fit?

Buddy, the M4600 will be out soon and you will feel bad that you got the M4500.... new processor.... Sandy Bridge.... They should discount the M4500. It is a great machine, but still should discount. Google M4600 Dell.

Based on what you plan on using it for, I think you spent about 10x too much. I'm serious too. One of those Office Depot HP's or Acer's that regularly go on sale for about 400 bucks is more than enough.

Ok, thanks guys. I think I'll just continue with the order. I was more curious to know if the components I picked made sense (will the i5 save battery compared to the i7?). It sounds to be a very proven and stable machine. Correct? Also, I have had the "cheap" laptops before and had nothing but grief with them. I want quality, Right now, my guys (39 field employees) have macbook pro's running windows 7 pro. They like them but most are requesting dell's for docking reasons. I think it's time to hire an it guy, im getting in over my head now....

My advise, cancel the order and buy Latitude E6510 or 6520'a instead, your throwing away money for no reason on things that are not needed eg. quadro graphics, which you are paying a massive premium for.
The latitudes have the same docking capabilities, same build quality, same screens, same cpu options etc etc...except graphics, and are around 50-60% cheaper where I live

Also the M4500 is not a fast booting notebook when Dells 20 second posting time is counted as well

Where did you find the Intel 310? I'm trying to find a seller who will ship to Australia.

    Consider what Weegie suggested.

I have BOTH the Latitude E6410 and the M4500 and build quality is almost identical. They share a lot of the same parts. They both carry 3 year warranties standard although the M is overnight, at your door. the 15" version of the E6410 is the E6510 I believe. The video card in the M4500 will be better but it's kind of irrelevant for you. It's a HUGE price difference...

With that said, the amount of money you're spending is a LOT. If you're intent on doing it, at least wait for the M4600 which is already announced and should be on the website any day now.

newegg is where I got mine, they showed no stock but then my corp purchasing guy emailed me and said they became avaliable, about a day later it was in my office.

I don't know who you could get them from in Australia, sorry.
