you can get the intel 310 from newegg.com, it's 189.99 with 2.00 shipping.

yes, the mounting screw should work. Just remove one screw on the bottom and push the back panel down. The miniSata will be available. Please note, you can only have the Samsung m800 or the intel 310 installed since the laptop only have one miniPCIe slot.

Hey guys, who makes the firewire (1394) chipset in the M4500? I know that the M6500 has the legendary Texas Instruments chipset. Is it the same in the M4500 or did they cheap out and use Ricoh?

    Also, does anyone know:

    1) Are there any other sites selling the Intel 310 (because it looks as though newegg.com doesn't have international shipping - I'm in Aus);

    2) Is it possible to hook up an mSata device other than through the dedicated internal mSata slot (e.g., an adapter to e-Sata or something...)

    ?

My strategy for upgrading is to image my currently Samsung m800 onto a new Intel 310 which I can then use to replace the m800. I am not an expert on drivers and I am reasonably happy with the way Dell have set up the O/S. Even though people say that Dell put junk on that isn't needed and I'd like to get rid of it, I'd hate to try and work out how to install all of the drivers myself, and straight installs of Win7 on Dell seem to give poor results. Hence, it would be cool if I could image the O/S disk directly from the m800 to the Intel 310. Otherwise, I may need to first image to another external drive first.

I think this topic has been covered, but I can't seem to find it in the 156 pages of this thread....

I am having massive boot up issues w/my m4500. It takes at least 5 attempts to get the system to start from a cold boot (sometimes as many as 10) and will not wake from sleep mode. I am on my second m4500 (dell replaced the first one) for the very same issue after swapping out the MB three times.

There are 3 drives installed + esata ( the Samsung 64 GB ssd, the stock dell 500 GB, a 640 GB WD (7200 rpm) installed in the DVD bay and a 1 TB eSATA drive for back-ups.)

Can anyone point me to the solution or have any ideas?

If you want to image the disk you'll need a third drive regardless of how you slice it.

    What I would do is:

Use win 7 backup to create a system disk image on the hard drive.

    Create a recovery DVD,

    Install the intel SSD

    boot from the DVD

and recover to the new SSD

    follow instructions..

You will have to re-register windows and , maybe, some of your other apps.

What you describe is a clone, it takes a product like norton ghost which makes an exact copy of your disk. You would have to find an adapter to go from the new drive (mSATA) to eSATA or USB... Pocket Micro SATA (mSATA) UDD from Addonics maybe?

Actually, I would probably do a fresh install of windows, but if I were going to do an image deal I would follow the steps above.

There is one piece of Dell Junk you can avoid which is one of their control panels "helpers". I forget what the name is but it is obvious. This you can do without....
