just wondering - I want to switch out the WXGA (1366X768) HD display with the WUXGA (1920x1080) Full HD. Both are 15.6-inch WideScreen (13.6"x7.6") in size. The video card seems to be able to support vga resolutions up to 1920x1200 (fx800m).

I don't see any issues, has anyone performed this swap or have any input if possible or not.

laptopscreen.com has it for 139.99 - not that expensive of an upgrade !

    TIA

It's listed as the main hard drive under the customization options, so I would assume so. But it says that Precision ON is not available if the two hard drives are selected.

    All I could find was:

So I'm at a loss to understand what it's really for. Perhaps they are more reliable drivers for use in certain applications where uptime or reliability is critical.

I generally don't trust all of the stuff that comes up on the Dell's driver download site anyway, as it often gives me the wrong stuff for my service tag.

I'm just using the regular nVidia drivers from their site, they're updated much more regulary and work fine with my machine and screen. The last update for the FX1800M was 3 days ago and I'm installing it now (Win7 64bit version):

    NVIDIA DRIVERS 266.58 WHQL

I went with the 266.58 driver instead of the ISV driver on the Dell Website. I sure like what Nvidia has done with their new installer program, looks really sweet and the 266 driver seems to perform very well.

Now that it we're talking about the videocard..

I have the Quadro FX880, got my system at the beginning of december last year and installed only the drivers provided by DELL on their website.

I have Photoshop CS5 installed and am working on an external NEC 21"3 1600x1200 monitor via the DVI on the docking station. I am experiencing "lazy" screen updates for some reason. Not so much when actually working on pictures, or dragging them around within their own subwindow, but when dragging subwindows within PS, or alt-tabbing between for example a picture viewer and Photoshop to cut&paste content. The feeling is waay less snappy than when I had CS3 on my Athlon X2 desktop for some reason.

Haven't done much troubleshooting thus far, but might dive deeper into it. I have done some limited testing with the performance options in Photoshop (different GPU usage settings), but nothing seemed to make much difference. Also 64bit 32bit Photoshop no obvious difference if I recall. I will pay some more attention to what it feels like with windows under Windows, with CS5 on the laptop LCD...

    Any idea welcome though...

Running Win7 64, Adobe CS5 Photoshop 64-bit, FX1800M, notebook's 1600x900 screen, i7 840qm processor, Intel X25 SSD. Not noticed any problems - the whole app feels pretty quick. I have cracked all the GPU acceleration options up to the max. However, make sure you have the latest Photoshop CS5 patches installed, I recall the previous Photoshop patch mentioned performance issues. I had only been running CS5 for a couple of days before it patched itself so don't know if the problems were present on the default install from the DVD.

To rule out it's the monitor, try seeing if you get the same problems on the notebooks own display.

Oh! And just read your message again. Seriously think about using the latest nVidia driver, not the Dell one. As I said previously, they specifically mentioned CS5 in the driver notes for that version. However, I hadn't experienced any problems prior to that. Though the new water colour painting function in Photoshop CS5 does seem a bit more speedy, maybe.

Independent software vendor. If you don't know what it means, then you don't need to worry about it. ;)

Seriously, this is for professionals working with specific applications, typically computer-aided engineering type of software, but also some creative professionals. Companies like Autodesk, Dassault, Siemens, etc. will guarantee the functionality of their software if you use drivers they have tested and certified. We are talking about software packages that generally cost thousands, sometimes tens of thousands of dollars here. If you have any issues when using a different driver, they won't help you or file a support case unless the issue is confirmed using a certified driver. And if you waste time and productivity because you feel some non-certified driver performs much better in WoW or such, you're likely to get fired... :D

Like I said, if none of the above applies to you, then don't worry about it. Oh, and of course, it may well be that even the above professional applications work better with the newest drivers from NVidia, but the ISVs haven't tested them yet, so they will not vouch for their performance, that's all.

Hi Guys, I'm Pavel from Czech Republic. On Monday I'll finally get my new Dell Precision M4500 (previously I had Vostro 1510), and I will probably do video review about this laptop :) because on youtube is not much videos about this laptop, if I'll do video about it, it'll be in english of course. ;)

    This is my configuration:

Intel Core i7-640M (2.8 GHz, Dual Core)
8 GB RAM DDR3 1333 MHz (runs at 1066 MHz)
    Nvidia Quadro FX 880M
500GB (7,200rpm) Serial ATA Hard Drive
    WLED Full HD LCD (1920x1080)
    9-cell battery 90 W/HR
    Precision ON Flash
EMEA Dell™ Wireless 1520 (802.11 a/b/g/n dual band) Mini Card
    DVD+/-RW Optical drive (soon I will buy Blu-ray writer :) )
    UK/Irish backlit keyboard

What is interesting. Why i have UK/Irish keyboard?

Dell's czech website with configurator is not fully functional. If you select in Instant ON flash, the configurator write this - "The Instant On Flash selected is not compatible with your Keyboard. To fix this issue please change your Instant On selection."

But this is the mistake of the website, but in dell told me, that it didn't possible select ON flash with czech internal keyboard, only UK or German (on web in czech you can select czech, german or UK keyboard).

Today, and this is funny, because I don't have my laptop yet (My friend has a IT company which is a direct partner of Dell. He sent laptop to me in yesterday). I called in dell (too yesterday), said them my problem and my wish change UK keyboard for czech. I was suprised, because dear Miss (and young :) ) on tech line told me: "Is not problem, give me your address and I can send you Czech backlit keyboard" :)

This is on of my reasons to choose Dell :) They are very wiling, by the way :)

Price is 49 800 CZK. In USD is about 2 740 dollars.
Directly from dell will this configuration cost about 70 000 CZK (3 850 USD)

That's all from me, and sorry for my english :) If I'll do review I'll post the link on youbube here ;))

WUXGA == 1920x1200 and 1920x1080 == FHD. This is why you're getting confusion from people.

Take a look at Graphic display resolutions - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia among other sources. You can't switch out a 16:9 and a 16:10 aspect ratio display. I'm guessing you mean you want to swap what Dell calls an HD display (1366x768) with what Dell calls Full HD (1920x1080)?
