Hmm thanks. How does the second hard drive installation work? Are there two HD bays or is the 64 SSD hidden away somewhere?

Impossible to tell if this is a good deal, since you didn't mention the warranty and support package included. Basic return to depot warranty: no great deal. 4 or 5 year NDB on-site with Gold support and accident/theft coverage: fantastic deal

$350 for the CPU upgrade? I dunno. The 840QM in my machine is fast enough for my applications, but obviously you must be the judge here!

If you get the 64GB SSD and a HDD, the SSD will be a 50*20 mm mini-card sitting in a little slot under the removable bottom panel, that is either occupied by the cellular module or the SSD. So you cannot have both at the same time.

You can use the bay occupied by the optical drive to add a caddy with yet another hard drive. Matching caddies are available trough ebay and other sources.

Speaking of such devices, has anybody seen this:

    Intel® Solid-State Drive 310 Series - Overview

Seems to have the same performance as the X25 drives. Doesn't seem overly expensive too.

Would that fit in the WWAN slot? I have an X25 in my M4500 and it rocks, but like a little more capacity. This seems a cheap way of doing it.

"3 Year ProSupport and 3 Year Next Business Day On-site Service"
    No accidental damage coverage.

What kind of applications are you running? I'm thinking about running Alias, Solidworks, Rhino, Keyshot, and Adobe CS4/5.

Hmm the Dell customizer allows me to choose "64GB Solid State Minicard Drive for systems with dual storage drives" + HDD + Optical Drive.

Thanks for all the help. Trying to figure this out before my coupon expires on the 24th.

    Hello;

Iam goin to buy a 4500 from dell outlet.
They offered me lots of options, these two are lookin good,

    1st is

i7-840, 8GB, 256GB SSD, FX-1800, FHD Display, WiMax 6250, Bluetooth, Smartcard and fingerprint reader, Webcam, Win7 Ult 64
    1800 inc. vat

    2nd is

    i7-920,4 Gb, 250Gb HDD, FX-1800, 1366x768 Display, Dell 1501 Wireless, Win7 Pro 32
    1128 inc. VAT

the i7-920 is looking good for 1128, but first one is really loaded. Is it worth for +770 for the i7-840 system?

If i buy the 2nd system, i am planning to replace the display with WUXGA, had anyone tried it before?

What are you going to use for a screen bezel if by some remote chance you manage to screw the different aspect screen in.
The two are very different shapes.

Or are you talking about replacing it with 1080 panel?

if you could get a cheap enough 1920x1080 panel, I would choose the cheaper of the two because I'm a cheapskate ;)

I assume you know the M4600 was announced a month ago. I am unaware of any release date, but will have Sandy Bridge processor... I would feel real bad if I bought a 4500 with a new one to come out immediately... price for the 4500 should also plummet.

They are probably waiting to sell the last 4500 before they release the 4600, so please go ahead and buy it :)

There is a new graphics driver posted on the Dell driver page for the M4500, it's 259.70 and it's ISV certified. Just wondering if I should upgrade to this driver specifically because it's ISV.. what is ISV anyway?
