I have been surprised at some of the stuff out there recently. I wonder if the developers know its in their code. Anyway, looks like my machine runs with plenty of headroom.

Can someone point me to some of the basic steps in overclocking the M4500...? I searched. This appears to have the best info I could fine:

Looks pretty clear that by downloading the NVIDIA controls referenced from the above software, you can OC. Is this what most do?

is your gpu 880m or 1800m?

also i suggest that you use GPUZ. because nvidia performance utility only offers up to like 938mhz or something along that line and so it will limit your memory clock ability. GPU has much broader range.

    but yeah just use GPUZ.

Thanks for the comment. I have downloaded GPUZ and run it through the antivirus mill (it only shows up in VirusScan as having certain suspicious packing- but ok otherwise). I am very cautious about this stuff.

I am a 1800M. We have used mobile precision workstations since the M60 for OpenGL development in flight simulation and neuroimaging, so we want lotsa performance.

I think I will tweak it up slowly as you suggest, but neither of these pieces of software actually seem to allow me to tweak the settings. On the NVIDIA stuff the sttingschanges are not retained.

Also, I have plenty of software to break the back of these workstations, but what is the best test?

If we have all this info in one spot, would be useful to other users.

    Cheers

PS It is funny that all our flight simulation stuff runs much better on the M4500 that the target workstation in our simulator which is three years old...

I have an M4500 with a 500 GB HD and a 64GB minicard SSD. I want to update the Firmware on the minicard to version VBM73D1Q; currently in the BIOS the discs are setup as RAID, but the firmware update program needs them to be set as ATA or AHCI; my question is: would changing the BIOS settings for the discs cause me to lose data? I am not much concerned about the SSD which only contains data and is going to get wiped out by the firmware update anyways; my main concern is the operative system and programs in the 500 GB GD; would I need to re-install Windows after changing the BIOS settings?

I want it buy on ebay, but i can't find accurate type Blu-ray burner with front bezel and system eject optical drive like DVD drive TS-U633 for this laptop. I mean system under drive for eject drive from laptop. Thanks

You need to increase the SHADDER CLOCK FIRST... after a good amount of increase like 150 mhz or so, you will be able to oc your core clock and mem clock... i dont know why it is designed this way, but this is the only way for you to oc at this moment (took me some good time to figure out since there was no info at all onlinle).

when you oc in small increments, use furmark to test the stability for like 30 secs. do till your drivers crash and you will know the max clock for that category. but you need to reboot everytime your drivers crash because when drivers crash your clocks are stuck at 405mhz core clock for some reason... once you have the MAX for all three clocks, run FURMARK and PRIME 95 at the SAME TIME. run for like an hour at least. if it doesnt crash till then, it will probably be ok. if it crashes, decrease mhz by like 5mhz and try to find out which clock is too high.

i just ran Black ops.... 1080p at ABSOLUTE MAX settings. i get bout 25fps in intense parts and a good 30fps or so at the relatively easier scenes.. i have set to full "Quality" under 3d performance in nvidia drivers so the game itself looks INCREDIBLE.. this was done under OC, but without OC, i was still able to pull the MAX setting without much problem.

    share your results!

    Hi there,

Well at this point I've spun my wheels for quite a few hours and have not gotten anywhere so time to ask for soem help.

I just got my M4500 the other day and I wiped it clean so I can install Windows Server 2008 R2 on it. thought it would be a piece of cake.

Well turns out it is not a piece of cake. Arrrrgh

The installation process goes through fine and on the very last phase of the install I get an error message that "Windows cannot be configured on my computer's hardware". Bloody hell!!!???

At the time I knew nothing of what UEFI was and still nto too sure if it is the culprit or not. I can confirm that my BIOS is set to Legacy mode though and always has been.

I have read a lot of notes regarding people running Server 2008 R2 so I'm at a loss as to why my machine is not cooperating.

Any tricks or maybe something I'm missing?

    Thanks.
