With the 9 cell and the i7 920 extreme I got 2.75 hours of normal use, email web video and music.

I think I remember seeing above you have the 250gig HD/7200. Any comments on noise?

The drive is: ST9250410AS, it makes me worry about reliability.

Its average, slightly noisier in my opinion than the WDC Black drive very minor.
I am however swapping for an SSD I dont plan on long term use.

Hard Drive Tach and Everest show average read speed of 86MB/s so its a pretty quick drive.

What SSD are you putting in? This has me worried enough to just go ahead and pony up for the X-25M G2 160gig.

How easy is installation. I am reading some things about AHCI or whatnot. Can I just swap the drives and go? What else do I need to do on the m4500?

I am not impressed by Dell's HD selection for this drive.

With windows 7 you don`t have to do anything special. Change the drives, install windows and the rest of needed drivers and: enjoy.

The Intel should be a good choice, I also got one (the 80gig) for my upcoming E6410.

Thanks welt, and as for Trim? Will that already be ready to go? It is a G2 drive that I have ordered.

TRIM should function if you use the right SATA driver (as far as I`m concered only the windows 7 Sata Driver works, not the Intel one).

But could be that I`m wrong at that point and the actual Intel driver works with TRIM too. And if it not works, you can use the intel ssd toolbox and trim manually.

In my desktop I use a Supertalent Indillinix SSD and I trim manually only every two months, thats enough.

    I have both the intel 160gb g2 & the OZC vertex-2 256gb.
The Intel is the better of the 2 speed wise.

With either drive you should set the Sata mode to AHCI in bios.
Once you do that TRIM works right out of the box with the supplied Windows 7 driver.

The intel drive scores 7.7 on the Windows 7 WEI on my M4500.
