I've ordered an M4400. Went with the smallest RAM and HD, will pick those up aftermarket for a fraction of the cost.

The weights were with 9-cells in both. Yah, no kidding about that 130w power supply, too...even its cord is bulky!

    Congrats...hope you'll enjoy the laptop.

Did you try calling Dell to see if they'll give you a better price?
I also planned to upgrade those parts later but my rep offered me to give me the highest config at 50% of any price i could find aftermarket. Good deal :D

And i agree with Weegie and TheZoid....i had some actual issues at first but all is fixed, either by a Dell tech or driver updates from Intel etc.
I see a lot of issues popping up that could be solved by...USING THE SEARCH FUNCTION IN THIS FORUM...lol

I've had nothing but headaches with mine... 3 motherboards in the first two months of usage and constant downclocking on the new bios revisions. Finger's crossed, but with a13 and now that i've sorted out the sleep/vista x64/bluetooth issues, it's been running fine.

okay, my first to do's with a new M4400:
    -Update GFX drivers
    -Install SRS update for audio
    -update Touchpad driver
    -update Bios to A13
-downgrade Intel Storage Manager to version 8.2.***
    -install ntune
-calibrate the screen (reduce blue when using LED Display by ~10% each slider)

Just a quick question, what is the SRS audio driver for? Is it a replacement for the other IDT driver?

For folks that have the backlit keyboard: can this item be dimmed or switched off?

    Thanks.

Corporate purchasing, I didn't get to talk directly. They already get some good deals off retail.
