    Hello,

I'm planning to buy an M4400 from Dell.
However, I see that they provide 800 MHz Ram even though the CPU has 1066MHz FSB.

For this issue, I'm terribly disappointed by Dell.

For M6400 however, the ram runs at 1066MHz.
Do you know if i can upgrade later to 1066Mhz RAM?

    Thank you,
    Dan

Aye, you can upgrade, but its just a waste of money, because its less than 5% gain in performance.

Get the 1440x900 LED Display. Its great!

Yepp, the 5300 is amazing. If you are thinking about the 5100 you better get the Dell 1510.

    i would go for a P8600 or P9500. T-CPU got a significant higher TDP.
FX770 is fine. lower TDP than FX1700 but same speed with slightly OC.
4gb Ram is fine. 3GB will be used with a 32bit OS (but no reason to move forward to 64 bit)
HDD: Pick any HDD you like to have in a external case. You better swap HDD yourself with a tested and trusted performance-HDD.
Since my Seagate 7200.3@ 320gb crashed i got a Samsung HM320JI. really nice HDD. amazing speed but 10° cooler and absolutely no noise and vibration(compared to that crashed seagate)
Backlit keyboard is great aswell. much better typing feeling than that Keyboard without LED!

The Win7 System builder versions will be as cheap as usual Win-Versions ~150$. I think you should get a XP system because of the driver issues.

as i said: definitely save the money for HDD!
when swapping HDD go for WD@7200rpm or Samsung at 5400rpm

Does M4400 have HDMI or I have to use DisplayPort to HDMI adapter?

Edit: And one more question; does it have IR port?

Dell Precision M4400, C2D T9550 (2.66,6MB,35W TDP), Quadro FX770M, 4GB, 320GB 7200RPM, DVD-RW, 1440x900 LED display, Wifi Intel 5300, Bluetooth, 6 cell battery, backlit keyb., camera, fingerprint reader, no OS (I will install my XP32Pro)

EDIT: and DisplayPort -> HDMI adapter :)

EDIT2: I want P9550 but DELL does not offer it in Czech republic yet :-(

No IrDA or CIR port. Sorry :-/

You can easily adapt the DisplayPort to HDMI (and consequently Single-Link DVI as well) -- I found adapters for these at Monoprice.com for real cheap.

I already ordered the DisplayPort->HDMI adapter together with M4400 so I think I'll be alright. I think the DisplayPort is better than HDMI, it offers higher resolution.

NVidia has on the web drivers for its mobile graphic cards (also for Quadro). Are these drivers better then the original from Dell? Ecspecially drivers for WinXP32.

Depends how you look at it -- DisplayPort on its' own does not carry xvYCC, Dolby TrueHD, DTS-HD Master Audio, or CEC. While HDMI doesn't have the bandwidth to support the resolutions (or color depth, or frequency) DisplayPort can.

They both have their advantages and disadvantages.

DisplayPort is meant to succeed DVI, not HDMI.
