Wow they did a fast job on that. At least this one looks pretty interesting with the updated thermal table and such. Will test tomorrow!

Anyone know when a 4500 may be due? And also, how would a Core 2 duo mobile that's curently in the m4400's compare to i5/7's?
ie. What is the i5/i7 equal of a 2.66ghz core2duo?

Any links to articles would be appreciated :)

I noticed today that the configuration options on the M4400 have been changed. A few days ago, you could get a big discount on an M4400 which could only be configured wit a 32-bit OS. If you wanted 64-bit, you had to select a base model with a much smaller discount. Now they got rid of that 64-bit option completely. I can't see anyway to configure a new M4400 with a 64-bit OS.

Does this suggest the M4500 is about to drop? If not, why in the world did they take away the 64-bit option? They certainly won't be selling any of their over-priced 8GB RAM upgrades.

EDIT: This reminded of a question I had. If I buy an M4400 from the outlet with a 32-bit OS, do I have to then buy my own copy of Win7 (64-bit) to install? Can you upgrade from 32 to 64 or would I need a full version?

If you buy from the outlet, anything Business/Pro or Ultimate, they will send you a 64 bit disc upon request. I did this in the past. License works for both 32 and 64 bit versions, so you just use the same key on the bottom of the laptop.

    I thought you couldn't upgrade from a 32-bit to 64-bit?

Also, just got done chatting with Dell...you can still order 64-bit OS on a new M4400 but you have to go through a side door of browsing to find it for now

Technically, you can upgrade from a 32 bit XP or Vista version to 64 bit with an upgrade license, but you will have to do a clean install. Your program files and data will be erased, so if you are doing this to a computer you have just purchased it's not a big deal.

Clean install would be fine. But can you go 32-bit XP or Vista to 64-bit Win7?

EDIT: Also, in my chat I asked what brand SSD's they use...she said they usually use Intel on the Precision line but when I pressed her on it, she said they had no way to ID the brand/model. The SSD sizes don't seem to match the Intel SSD sizes I'm aware of (80GB and 160GB for the Intel X-25M). Anyone know what SSD you get with the M4400?

Windows keys work for both the 32 and 64bit versions...always. Indeed you'll have to do a clean install but that's it. You don't even need a disc from Dell or Microsoft, you can just download a torrent and use the key you have.
