Precision 7720 Owner's Thread

How is the 4K IGZO panel compared to HP's DCII display on the elitebooks and ZBooks? Is the extra resolution worth the 10bit and color accuracy tradeoff?

I just tried the following setup: internal display (4k driven by Intel) + 3 external displays (each 4k driven by nVidia -> 2 via DP from E/Port II + 1 via miniDP from notebook) and it worked without any problems leading to a desktop of 15,360x2,160 pixels. Not bad for a notebook.
Next thing I want to find out is if the 2 DPs coming out of the Thunderbolt port and the HDMI port could feed further displays additionally...

Hello,
I have just received an M7720 as a warranty replacement to my old M6700 and during the time the new machine took to arrive my warranty expired.
The new machine is working but the high speed ram (2666 Mhz) is only reported by windows as 2400Mhz (bios does say 2666).
I cannot contact tech support as the warranty has expired , but the ram is running at the wrong speed.
I bought a couple of sticks of 2666Mhz ram and that is correctly identified as 2666 by windows , but the different sticks do not run together and I get two amber flashes - one white flash from the battery led on the front of the unit.
I have upgraded the bios to the latest 1.7 version and that has not changed anything.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Pretty sure warranty replacements are covered for 90 days even if your warranty is expired...

 

Dell have just confirmed via online chat that I have no warranty even on the replacement :-(

 

Well, it sounds like you can purchase new RAM that will run at 2666 or just deal with the existing RAM running at 2400. Honestly, you'll probably never notice the difference in the RAM speed, and it is running faster than the M6700 that you had before...

 

Yes , when I tried the system with both lots of ram fitted it fails to boot (mostly) but it does sit there with the left hand from LED (battery charging) double amber flashing then single white flashing. So I have left it with the factory fitted ram in the two slots under the keyboard (they shipped Kingston ram which did surprise me).

I was able to run side by side comparisons between the M6700 and my works M7720 and with Cinebench 15 processor wise it was only 10% quicker (i7-4940mx vs the E3-1535M v6) and 20% quicker graphics wise K5000M vs P5000.
My 7720 only has the p4000 card.

 

Other people have to pay quite some money to update to 7720 - you got that 10% CPU increase for free, just before your warranty ended - not that bad, I would say ;-)

 

I was lucky to be able to spec up the m7720 for my new job and they just ordered it without any questions. Class 50 m.2 drives are very nice.
