Yeah in total I tried 4 docks. I finally get dual 4k@60hz, plus the tb16 also works 4k@60hz, was more of a curiosity thing. I had a 3rd monitor to try

    Any idea if it'll do 1440p @ 144 hz?

EDIT: I found a mDP to DP and it does in fact drive a 27" at 1440p, 144 hz

hello, maybe someone has some input regarding 4k playback. i have a 7720 with the Quadro M1200 and Xeon E3-1505 V6. i can't get 4k video with H.265 to play on my system.

i have looked into it and i can't see why this would be.

i can get it to play through VLC media player, albeit choppy.

all drivers are updated. i can't switch from integrated graphics in the Nvidia control panel when it comes to WMP or VLC.

does anyone have any insight for me on this? thanks.

I don't have any HEVC videos to try so I can't comment on this directly, however, I read that as of version 2.x, VLC does not yet support hardware acceleration for HEVC video. I'm not sure if this has changed for the new 3.0 release, that could account for why it is slow in VLC. Also, it seems that Windows 10 1709 ("Fall Creators Update") does not include an HEVC decoder so you will not be able to use a program like Windows Media Player to play back HEVC video, without installing an appropriate codec from elsewhere.

NVIDIA has a list of executables for which you cannot switch to the NVIDIA GPU when running in an Optimus configuration, and they have applied it to common video playing apps like VLC and MPC-HC. You can get around it by just changing the name of the .exe file. I ran MPC-HC in Optimus for a while to get around a stuttering issue that I was experiencing when running it only on the Intel GPU.

Update - It looks like you can download the HEVC component from the Windows Store.

I think Netflix 4K uses HEVC?

I was able to get mine working but there was a very specific Nvidia driver I had to download to do so, and it also required a 7th gen core I series CPU or 6th gen Xeon and the windows creators update. I also couldn't use my external monitor because it also required HDCP 2.2. You can configure is 7720 to have a 6th gen i7 which I don't think supports HEVC 10 bit.

Actually did test this recently using 4K HEVC video shot on an iPhone, and that worked fine in VLC with no stuttering or anything (on my M6700).

If anyone has used a Dell Precision 7520 for some time, I'd greatly appreciate if you could tell me: (1) Does the pointing stick work well? (2) Is it practical to work with it in your lap, lying down; or is it too heavy for that? (3) Does the bottom of it get noticeably hot? Any other comments on your experience with this model would also be helpful. Thanks a lot! Ilya.

    1. Meh. I prefer the touchpad over the pointing stick. Many people have mentioned that the Lenovo pointing sticks are definitely better, so if that's what you're used to, you may be disappointed.
    2. I don't think it's too heavy.
    3. The bottom can get hot when the laptop is under load but during light use it should be totally fine.

When working from the couch, I prefer to use a folding TV tray table sort of thing.
