New Dell Precision 17 7000 Series (7710) - Help with customization

I'm configuring my new precision order on dell website and get this message - "Errors: Mobile Broadband is not compatible with the LCD you have selected. Please use the links provided to amend your selection"

the LCD I've selected is "17.3" UltraSharp™ UHD IGZO (3840x2160) Wide View Anti-Glare LED-backlit, with camera and microphone"

why would mobile broadband not be compatible with this LCD?

    please help.

    the dell site is: http://configure.euro.dell.com/dell...-m7710-workstation&c=uk&l=en&s=bsd&cs=ukbsdt1

Not sure except that the antenna likely is routed under the display bezel and perhaps the IGZO assembly doesn't accommodate for that? I just now tried similar configuration on USA website with same error. I would call and ask them to explain and maybe is simply problem with their website config.

Upgraded to BIOS 01.06.06 without any issues. So far I've not noticed any difference in functionality from previous BIOS. Note that I don't have a TB15 dock to test if this version corrected the TB15 issues. Is there anyone here who can tell us if this BIOS fixes any of the past TB15 dock issues?

I'm curious about the "Special Graphics" mode in BIOS under video settings. Wondering if it has to do with external GPU switching or something with VR. It didn't seem to make any difference to my system when I booted with that box checked.

Anyway, just posting here that I upgraded without issue.

I had the same problem but I order a HP ZBook G3 with 4K DreamColor Display. So I had them just ship the WLAN mobile card by its self. They cancel my order twice because they said the WLAN card is not compatible with the display.

Can anyone help me find a second hard drive. I have ordered a Precision 7710 with just a primary SSD drive - "256GB M.2 PCIe High Performance Solid State Drive, MPWS" and want to install a second 1TB SSD myself. I've been search on google for compatible drives but can't find a single site that shows compatible M.2 PCIe drives. I'm not sure but the Samsung SM961 1TB may be the only one I could find (which is not out yet).

Also is it easy to install on the machine or do I need a Dell technician to do it? I don't want to take it apart too much afraid may break something.

    Thanks

    My 77100 specs:
    Intel Xeon E3-1575M v5
    32GB (4x8GB) 2667MHz DDR4 Memory Non-ECC, MPWS
    Nvidia Quadro M5000M, 8GB GDDR5

When I looked a month ago I could only get the Samsung 950 Pro NVME PCIe in a 512 GB format so I went with that.

I found it very easy to install and was impressed with the setup of the 7710 for component access.

(I had a 1TB samsung 850 pro 2.5" so I installed one of these as well in the 2.5 bay for now and figure I'll add another PCIe drive when the samsung is available in this format and comes down in price a bit.) The 950 is faster when benchmarking, but the 850 is still very fast for me.

I'm looking to buy an eBay Dell certified laptop, so checking configs is tough.

I have a few questions if anyone can help.

Do 75xx and 77xx series have required connections for backlit keyboard upgrades?
I've seen conflicting info, but it seems they do (unlike older Precisions)

Will all Dell Precision systems have Win7 downgrade capability? It seems there are many on Win10 but all Dell configurators offer 7 downgrades or 10 upgrades (ie both versions)

Lastly, can you swap from MXM FirePro > Quadro > GeForce GTX variants?
I'd read 7710 will fit all cards fine.
However heat sink/fan unit may be unique between amd/nVidia variants?

    Thanks for any help!

The connector for the keyboard is the same between backlit and non-backlit keyboards, so you can easily upgrade. This is true for all Precisions at least as far back as M4600/M6600.

    Thanks for the clarification Aaron!

It's a tough one finding the right laptop.

Currently pondering USA models too. They're almost all Win10 and would need a UK power brick, but seem a bit cheaper too.

But power brick costs and win10 downgrade concerns are putting me off a bit.

Also avoiding the 7710s with the base screen is tough.

They're great value if you can get the right spec though!

You don't need a different brick, they're all the same. Just the power cable is different (part that goes from the brick to the wall), but its just a standard PC power cable, like you would use with a desktop computer.
