    Ah cool, another thing ticked off the list.

    I was also thinking about keyboard differences but noticed I've been using USA keyboard (I think) for years as the Mac metal keyboards are a different key layout anyway.

    I'm assuming Dell warranties are global too.
    Time to start scouring the USA models in eBay as well!

    Thanks very much for the advice!

    Check the height of the drive. 9.5mm drives will fit. As far as I know, all 2.5" drives over 2 TB in size are at least 12mm tall and they will not fit. I'm not sure why they are marketed as "laptop drives", as I have actually never seen a laptop that will accept a drive taller than 9.5mm.

    Does anyone know of any reports of the next gen version of this? 7810 or whatever they may call it. It's been almost a year since the 7710 was released into the wild.

    A refresh (likely 7720) won't happen until Intel's full set of Kaby Lake CPUs are available, I'm looking to first quarter 2017.

    So had my 7710 a week and all well until today, I have 2 x m2 drives and my second one is not showing in windows?

    It boots to windows slowly.

    My bios doesn't show a primary hd?

    According to DigiTimes, the first H-series quad-core processors intended for high-end gaming laptops, mobile workstations, and ultrabook-class machines will be revealed at the January Consumer Electronics Show. Apparently Asus, Gigabyte, and Micro-Star offerings are being prepared for announcement at the show, utilizing the new processors. Hopefully Dell is in the mix too and announces something to stay competitive with the others, in which case an announcement is only about 5 weeks away!

    I think they'll be a bit behind the others with the Precision refresh (could be wrong). In the past we have normally seen the new CPUs show up first in lower-class machine refreshes like the Latitude before the Precision refresh is announced. But if Intel is releasing high-end CPUs first, it could be different.

    Also it seems that Dell, HP, and Lenovo always seem to have their workstation-class laptops available at around the same time, so an announcement from one of the competitors could give a hint for timing as well.

    With the 6xxx series it used to announce the new ones at the same time each year. The 7710 was announced in October '15, so was hoping for an announcement on the next version by now.

    For those with a 7710, does anyone notice the laptop releasing a lot of heat out of the machine? Especially with a Xeon and/or 64gb ram. Has anyone noticed it giving off enough hot air to compare with a PC or not even close?

    It's never been at the same time of year.
    M6600 = April 2011
    M6700 = July 2012
    M6800 = September 2013
    7710 = September 2015 (two year gap)

    The timing depends on Intel's CPU release schedule. We will not see a revision before the full set of Kaby Lake CPUs are available, or at least the high-end range ones.
