I wiped my laptop then performed a fresh install along with all Windows Updates and drive updates via Dell's site. What I'm missing however are the other power options...the only one available is Balanced. I've seen this in the past and tried the "fixes" of restoring the power schemes as well as importing the scheme definitions but while I can see them in the registry, they're still not presented as selectable options. Does anyone know what's happening or what I missed?

This is as expected; you can just use the Balanced plan to customise your power behaviour for on-battery/plugged-in.

Some time back, MS disabled switching power plans through the control panel. You can do it from the command line.
    Switch to high performance with:
    powercfg /s 8c5e7fda-e8bf-4a96-9a85-a6e23a8c635c
    See available plans with:
    powercfg /list

Once you switch to a different plan, you will be able to customize it in control panel. The GUI option to switch will disappear if you go back to balanced, though.

Microsoft would prefer that you instead use the power slider which can be found in the flyout after clicking on the power/battery icon in the taskbar. (It is only available if you are on the balanced plan.) You can't really customize how it behaves, though.

Thanks for this! How would one normally obtain the string for the power mode?

The Wikipedia article for powercfg points out that, for Windows installs with the language set to English,
    • powercfg -setactive scheme_max will set the maximum power saving scheme
    • powercfg -setactive scheme_min will set the minimum power saving scheme
    • powercfg -setactive scheme_balanced will set the balanced power scheme
Those names are much easier to remember if you're content with one of those three choices!

Thanks. So if I want the maximum performance all round, and don't care about fan noise or battery life, what should I do? Leave it on Balanced and set the GUI slider (on the battery system tray icon) to the right, or edit the Balanced plan manually to set everything to max, or change the plan to High Performance?

    Thanks

Slider to the right, edit the Balanced plan, and, if you have ThrottleStop, set the Speed Shift EPP number to 0:

    Where was turbo disabled?

i just checked mine and in task manager see it get up to 3.75 GHz while doing nothing.

Dell Power Manager Thermal Management is set to Optimized (was default)

Windows Battery is set to Best Performance

So far the only Updates I installed are the updated bios and Command Update that now says everything is up to date. I checked the Nvdia Driver Windows has installed and looks to be the same version on the Dell Downloads. I did not check any others yet to compare to Dell Downloads.

There is a newer NVIDIA driver (471.41) available via their site. Use the dropdowns to customize for your specific configuration.
