From a technical standpoint, what does that do and how/why does it effect USB during normal operation? Curious because engineer brain needs to know. lol

It disables some low-power modes that the CPU could drop down into under light load. In these systems this seems to have the side-effect of causing USB "hiccups" with the docks... It's been an ongoing issue since the Precision 7X30 series or maybe even earlier. (Disabling C-states may cause a slight adverse effect in terms of battery life, I never found it to be that noticeable.)

"Light load" ... I've had it drop out mid-stream where GPU is ~100% and CPU is 60+% lol ... but yeah I switched it off, so we'll see if it stops. I have a TB16 at the shop and I don't get dropouts there, but I did when I had the 7530; docks were unusable.

It's never off a dock or adapter, so I've not much concern for battery life. Thanks for the quick reply and here's to hoping it works.

Not sure it worked. LTE card has dropped off a couple times (hear the "hardware connected" sound occasionally and see "no service" for a couple seconds), and that was usually my indicator before.

    Thanks for the answer Aaron44126!

Since I am using the SSD to edit a documentary film feature I'm working on, we realized it was more convenient to find a portable but fast solution.
And the WD_Black 4TB P50 looks like a really good choice!

I just have some doubts about the top speed I can expect from it, because I saw in a video review that having a USB C - Thunderbolt 3 port, it would run at 2000 MB/s. but the actual spec info of the device says it would only achieve that speed with a USB 3.2 Gen 2X2 interface. So, I'm a bit confused.

On the spec sheet of the Precision 7750 it says the USB-C port are 3.2 Gen 2 Thunderbolt 3. So, I don't know what to expect.

Could you help me out a little bit here?

I just got my used Precision 7550 (10875H/32GB XMP 2933MHz/UHD/DCI-P3) and I'm so happy with the cpu performance, without replacing thermal paste it can handle a substain load of 80W and peak boost of 105W, might be pretty sad to see a workstation of this kind without dGPU but it was at the same price (1200€) as 7540/7530 with a poor P/T1000 or T2000 with a 6-core CPU, indeed it was the cheapest 8-core workstation I could find.
It's gonna replace my 3510 for "multimedia use", the 7550 can be cool enough with turbo boost disabled (I often disable it on every laptop when I don't need the full power).
Does someone know if the 4k upgrade is straight forward ? For now I have the DCI-P3 display but the lowest brightness is very high... and I like high resolution laptop for confort.

Wdym by 4k display upgrade? There are only two 4k displays. The panels are identical and the only difference between the two is the antennas that they have. One display option has an antenna for cellular data networking.

He's talking about upgrading from a 1080p panel to the 4K panel...
Obviously you have to swap out the panel, but probably also the display cable and maybe even the display enclosure.

Oh... I though the UHD meant the UHD panel, but it was UHD graphics

Yes I meant Intel UHD graphics because I don't have a dGPU yet.
I would like to swap only the panel, display form factor should be the same, the display connector is already 40 pins on the motherboard so the cable should be the same ? I don't think they are cheaping on like 10 wires for theses workstation... Also, there is no whitelist at all on this gen ?
It's a shame there is no parts list with their parts number yet... because I want to upgrade a few things :D

Also I think I found a way to undervolt this generation without hardware modification (even if it looked simple), I'm gonna keep you guys informed ;)

edit : there is no need to update the bios ? mine is from 07/20, but I don't want to update the bios to cripple performance....

    and there we go, :
