I can second this. In some ways, the a51m has potential to be one of the best mobile workstations available. Unfortunately, there are some things that hold it back and situational reliability is definitely one of them. I don't think it was just your unit @SlurpJug--I tried 3 of them and had a few persistent and repeatable problems with each one regardless of the hardware configuration.

On the other hand, what I was trying to do with it was definitely not what Alienware intended, so I don't really blame them.

The 7540 and 7740 I've used lack some of the 51m features and performance, but make up for it in reliability.

Just received a heatsink for the 7550. Interestingly enough, one of the fans came with a different motor and impeller with a higher rated airflow compared to the original heatsink, while the other one has the same amperage and airflow rating with the same fan blade design.

    New heatsink, CPU side:

Notable differences: compared to the original:

    • Plastic impeller with thicker blade & fewer blades
    • Lower amperage of motor

No idea how this affects actual airflow once the part is installed. Static pressure is much more important and it's not listed.

Why not upload your images to imgur, and put the links here between image tags?

Have a 7550 with the RTX 4000 on the way as an exchange for the current one w/ RTX 3000. PCH heat issues were (obviously) unable to be resolved with support, so another machine was ordered since the original system is so new. As a gesture of goodwill, they have upgraded me. This probably won't fix the PCH temp issues unless the heatsink for it was revised somehow (unlikely) but I couldn't resist the offer as the higher end Quadro was just barely out of my budget.

Doesn't look like they're selling the cards separately as parts anymore, which is another thing to consider when ordering a new system. Likely won't be able to upgrade the GPU down the line.

The 4000 is about 25% faster than the 3000.

    ETA 1 month.

When the unit arrives I'll check and see if the heatsink/fan design is any different for the higher end Quadros like they were for 7540 (RTX 4000 and 5000 vs. 3000).
