    Interesting, mine is default to "NVIDIA driver controlled". I also haven't been able to find much information on these. I have to switch some individual games to "prefer maximum performance" (or whatever it is called) to avoid DPC latency spikes which seem to be caused by the GPU switching power states.

    Looks good so far. I have few questions, not sure if you or anyone else has the answer. 1) I have opted for 2 x 32 GB RAM. Which are the two slots that will be used? The ones at back or the ones underneath the keyboard? 2) I know power cut is not an issue here in US. But my home country India has this problem. So battery life could be an issue for me (in case I go back to India). Have you tested the battery life? 3) How is the fan noise under normal-moderate uses? Thanks in advance...

    The slots under the keyboard should be filled in this case, leaving the ones under the bottom panel open for a future upgrade.

    Do you get a chance to check the PCH temperature when you set your computer to high performance mode with TB3 plugged? I hear many people complain on 7730/7740 the PCH becomes very hot if you set to high performance mode or connect TB3 to external display/hard drives.

    Still waiting for @song_1118 but from the service manual, the PCH is cooled using the same copper shim method as the 7550. The shim is a bit larger but that's it, it's still sandwiched by the plastic shroud.

    When I tested the 7740 last year, I had four TB3 devices:
    1. DELL TB3-16;
    2. DELL TB3-18;
    3.AORUS RTX2070 Gaming Box;
    4.NVMe SSD to TB3 and Type-C USB3.0 Box

    This test on the 7750 will also be used.
    Thank you for your reminding. I will pay special attention to the temperature of 7750 PCH during the test.

    Well, I've installed Ubuntu 20.04 on my 7750 and started doing some tweaks. Here are my observations so far:
    • Power button fingerprint reader is not recognized, must be a driver issue (if there even is a linux driver). So far I couldn't find any useful information about that. Is it worth asking Dell support or do you think it would just be a waste of time. It's not a big deal, but it's annoying nonetheless.
    • Touch pad right click button is not working. I can still activate the right click menu by two finger touch. Left click button wasn't working for a while as well, but then it somehow started working. It's bizarre. I don't suppose this is a common issue?
    • Suspend is not working, or rather resume isn't. When I suspend and press the power button to resume, it just cold boots like it was shut down. Anyone having the same issue?

    7550 hot bottom...(of the case that is). When I'm doing 'performance' computing (mostly games or some graphics work) I'm at my desk and plugged in etc. - I don't 'notice' the temperature of the case much. When I'm on battery, away from my desk, I'm almost always doing 'light' web stuff or doc editing with the occasional video call. However, the bottom of the case - gets hot...too hot for this to be comfortable to rest on my lap - I have to use some kind of rest and eventually the case even gets hot enough that the underside isn't very nice to pick the machine up.

    I've not had to monitor temps before so I've got hold of hwinfo and will use that to see what is getting hot specifically, but in the meantime, anyone have any cunning tricks to reduce heat when web browsing etc so that this can be a used literally as a 'laptop'?

    Try cutting the CPU speed. You don't need it to be clocking up to 4+ GHz for light work. Check my post here and look at the "Setup" section (you don't have to worry about the rest of it unless you want to mess with fan adjustments).

    Thanks in advance. Did you test your 7740 in performance mode? Normally it won't be a big issue to choose balance mode. But for high-intensitive scientific computation (100% 8-core CPU and 70Gb ram for 24 hours), it might have a significant negative impact on the performance.
